We Can Do It

Yesterday, I finally had to push back from my media addiction.
I have always loved all things financial and political.
But now it is making me sick.
Literally.
So, I turned off all my electronic boxes.
I cooked.
I read.
I slept well.
Today is a new day.
And I think we all need to declare war on our gloomy outlooks.
We've been through worse in this country.
It is going to be okay.
So go out and have a great day.
And an even better weekend.
Mama said so.

I hope you are right :) And with warmer temps on the way - having a good weekend is EXACTLY what I will do -

You do the same! Happy Friday!!!

I have already distanced my self from the financial news, electronically. Now if I could turn off the financial news from my husband my life would be less depressing.

It's all true. I've stopped watching the news in the last week. I get enough news on POTUS driving to and from work. My glass is full...

Yes Ma'am! Temps in the mid 70's will certainly help:) Can't wait to feel the warm sunshine on my face!

I'm confident that the show choir competition will help steer my mind away from evil financial thoughts....wish them luck!

You are waaaaay smart...we all need to do that for sure...how funny that was my post this morning sort of...watching tooooooooo much reality t.v....and they all bugged me way too much this week...have a good day!

Umm...you aren't talking about turning off the computer too are ya? I'm not sure I'd survive that.

But then..it has been a long time since my kids have seen me without my laptop attached to me.

things will get better...keeping plugged into the world is not necessary...other than blogging, of course.

You are absolutely right. I'm not sure when "the media" decided it was a good idea to put the very gloomiest of the gloom and doom spin on everything, but enough is enough.

Just, please, don't stop blogging! :)

This is a great idea - I just wish I could do it. I work for a city and no one can pay their utility bills, pay their sales taxes on their businesses, or can afford to go out and buy anything so our tax revenue is down 39%. I'm sorry, your post is about hope and really somewhere down deep I'm sure I have some just dying to spring to life. I'll try to find it this weekend. Maybe a worry hiatus is just the thing I need. Oh, did I mention my job ends on June 30th? But you have the right outlook.

Hear, hear! That's good advice from Mama.

My how the media seems to enjoy spreading bad news, all the better to make people panicky and upset.

I quit watching the news a long time ago. It made me depressed and how make myself that way. the only time the news gets watched now by me is if Trucker is home and I happen to sit down with him for a minute. I do watch the weather at times. Honestly I get the majority of my news on yahoo and that way I only read what I want to. Nothing more.

it is sickening to see our hard earned invested money dissapearing and the helpless feeling that it woudl cost us more to retrieve it... Makes me ILL.

Have you ever considered running for public office???? We need more of your enthusiasm, Mama. Our grandparents made it through far worse and I never heard my grandmother complain once.

Here's hoping you have one terrific week-end yourself.

Yesterday was our youngest Granddaughter's birthday, tomorrow is our next to youngest child's birthday, Sunday is our oldest Grandson's birthday and March 17th is our oldest Granddaughter's birthday. I guess we all know what we must have been doing during some of those December months. LOL

I'm letting the kids play video games so I don't turn on the news! Works for me!

Happy Mama up there in snow country :) So true...

I've been watching Dog Whisperer instead of the 7:00 gloom and doom. It's going to be 77 today and there's a pine tree in my yard fixin to be cut up! Have a good day my friend.

The Dog Whisperer rocks!! There are no bad dogs, only bad owners.

Ok, back to the subject at hand . . . it's so true just how much the news can depress you. Listening to it last night, I breathed a sigh of relief that I actually have a job. I'm so lucky for that.

I'm trying to stop listening to all that grim news. In my very simplistic world, I think if the media stopped reporting all the bad economic news for two weeks, things would start to improve. It's like a circle - we hear bad news, we cut back on spending, the stores lose money, they lay off people, they have to cut back, etc., etc., etc.

Good thinking.

Yes! I've always been a cable news junkie, but I find that my bullsh*t threshold is WAY down these days. I just can't stand listening to all the predictable talking points. So I've not been tuning in either.

Nice to know that I;m not the only one feeling this way.

Mary
