This-n-That Thursday

Things I miss:
  • The little "r" at the end of a long division problem
  • A long division problem. On paper.
  • "The Weekly Reader"
  • Rings-n-Things
  • Hand written thank you notes
  • El Caminos
  • Lincoln Logs
  • A thank you, at all
  • Stride Rite shoe stores
  • Swing-the-statue
  • And especially, this:

These two could have been mine 18 years ago. Well, except for the fact that one of them was a girl....what a special relationship.

I miss those days. And I miss all those missing socks, too.

What do you miss?

Spring is in the Air!

You Should Be With an Air Sign

Your best match is a Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius

You crave excitement and playful banter. Only an air sign can match your wit.

An air sign will keep you on your toes and keep you interested.

Your air sign will bring you fun, excitement, and surprises. Sounds like your perfect playmate!

A certain non-air sign has informed me my blog holds no interest lately.....hmmmm--maybe.
What is your match?

Parenting a 19-year-old daughter:

I had a toga party flashback when I read this. And it wasn't so ladylike....Anybody remember "Animal House"? It came out in 1978. The year I went to college. Put that in your brain and imagine an 18 year old MPM at college. Just imagine it.

Yessirree. Life has come full circle. How'm I doing?

Hellooooo Monday!

Bring it!!!
Aquarius Horoscope
For The Week Starting March 28, 2011
- Inspiration is running high for the next two weeks or so which is excellent for those of you who are artistic or have writing talent. Take advantage of this terrific aspect and get something done that you can exhibit. A great opportunity for a new job is within your grasp if you seek it out. This is an excellent time to redecorate or go shopping for a new wardrobe if you haven‘t done so already.

I love my job. But the prospect of all the writing and shopping business is nice, too. I'm sure I can weave them all together. At least in my mind....

Plus, I had a dream I was in a field of four-leaved clovers. Maybe I should be buying some lottery tickets, too. You know, as a backup plan....

How does your week look?

Better Than Therapy

Very interesting.....

You Are Driven and Focused

You view people with optimism. You have many meaningful relationships in your life.

You had more conflict with your father than your mother. Your relationship with him was healthy but challenging.

You deal with stress in an effective and competent matter. You are able to remain calm.

You are the type of person who knows how to get a lot done. However, sometimes you can't help but get overwhelmed by life.

That last one is a little too close for comfort. How about you?

This is how The Bird and I go shopping nowadays:
It's a little lonely this way.
I'm ready for college to be over.
I miss my little shopping companion.
sigh

Surprise Factor!

And on a Monday! I start a two day conference today at my new job. Could be interesting...

Today's Aquarius Horoscope from Cafe Astrology
March 21, 2011
News you hear today can bring about a scurry of activity and changes in plans, dear Aquarius, mainly because of the surprise factor involved. You might take a sudden interest in a new subject or way of thinking now, and changes occurring now (or simply conversations) can inspire a whole new perspective on your life.

Creativity: Good ~ Love: Good ~ Business: Good
For all of us:

The Sun conjunct Uranus in Aries this morning can bring excitement into our lives as we begin the astrological New Year. We may feel especially open to making changes. If we don't recognize our need for change, we can experience much restlessness. Restriction is hard to tolerate. Our egos are awakened and we seek new ways to express ourselves. There is a need to be creative and unique in our expression of self. Sudden, unexpected events can happen out of the blue with this influence. The Moon leaves Libra at 3:17 PM EDT, when it enters Scorpio

Could be interesting for all of us. Let's hope so. Get your scope here.

Happy Monday.

  • I shall celebrate life today.
  • The birds were really happy this morning.
  • Dora was especially frisky on our walk.
  • My coffee is heavenly.
  • I shall celebrate life today.

Saying Goodbye

Augie and Da
Circa 1994
My children are coming back today.
They are gathering to say goodbye to their paternal grandfather.
Da.
A gentleman and a wonderful provider.
A funny, funny man.
Even when he didn't know it;)
He shared his birthday with my babies.
He shared his name with my Augie.
A truly special soul.
Leaves a huge void.
Godspeed, Da.
Godspeed.

I think this is the year my children give up the pediatrician...
The Bird is traveling for summer school.
I secretly hope she needs some shots so we can go to her doctor.
I'm gonna miss the doctors at Willows Pediatrics...
Just like I miss my babies.
It seems like yesterday when Dr. Flynn sent me out of the room,
and then he gave my newborns their shots.
I cried harder than they did that day.
And this one?
Sigh.
Maybe he will let me take him there one more time.

My Idea of a Good Horoscope:

Is one where your day can have both interesting and informative discussions as well as time to fritter my time away with some inconsequential chatter. Life is never dull, is it?

A nonstop flow of communication between yourself and the people in your immediate environment is likely today.

You may engage in interesting and informative discussions or fritter your time away in inconsequential chatter

and gossip. Mental curiosity or restlessness may also impel you to take a short trip or visit.

So this was the parking lot at work on Monday morning.
Don't you like my subtle self portrait?

Spring Break and Augie went to an island. His Mama bought him 50 free texts, and the rest were on him...hence the radio silence:
And The Bird? Much more local. And much more chatty.
As you can see, Mama is still trying to eat more nutritious food. Life is excellent.

It's Monday!

Here's your pep-talk:

Saturday, March 5, 2011

Better Get to Church Early Tomorrow.....

You Are 68% Good

You are a good person. You do the best you can to be ethical, fair, and moral.

And as you know, being a good person means making hard decisions... and following them through.

If you're confronted with an ethical dilemma, you will usually do the right thing.

Of course you do slip up. No one's perfect. But you do your best to correct your missteps.

You are also probably: incredibly honest, especially with yourself

Right now you are on track to being: A respected leader

To be a better person: Be kind to someone who is not very kind to you

Friday Facts

You asked; I attempt to answer:

  • This is a complete juice cleanse of 5 days. I am doing this with two coworkers.
  • We are doing it through a local vegan juice stand.
  • Every morning, we have warm water, cayenne pepper and half a lemon. I have grown overly fond of this concoction.
  • Every two or two and a half hours, we drink our prescribed juice. There are 6 16-ounce drinks and they must be consumed in a particular order.
  • The juices have been...interesting. And only yesterday did I encounter one I could not even sip. But the one after that was watermelon, and it made up for the whole episode.
  • I was hungry a few times the first day but if it was bad, I just started drinking the next scheduled juice.
  • We can also sip on water and herbal teas.
  • No caffeine, no wine, no nothing but the juices.
  • I feel like a million bucks.
  • The bathroom: Plenty of kidney action, but, as many of you want to know: since the second day, the colon must be empty. Nothing. And we are all making the same observations.
  • Today is the last day, and I am a little sad. I am contemplating purchasing a juicer.
  • We will get instructions today about reintroducing solid food, and I expect it will be mostly continuing to eat a raw, plant based diet. And I am all for this.
  • I will weigh myself tomorrow. I think I have lost a few pounds, but I just feel different. My morning arthritis is gone, my sense of smell and taste are more sharp, my skin is softer and clearer, and I had to move my watch buckle over two holes. I think all that stuff about inflammation must be true.
  • Yes, I do feel proud of myself. And maybe a little virtuous.
  • I am definitely going to do this again.
Any other?

The one where I start a 5 day juice cleanse and can find no love:

I don't think she even cares. I'm all behind her on this college business, but, still...
And this morning, I sit here sipping my lemon/cayenne water, and I wonder what the juice genies have prepared for us today. Stay tuned.
