Flower Watch Friday

I love to practice in my garden.
I do different things every year with my little waterfall planter.
This year's purple and lavender theme made me happy.

Catmint and daisies are always a pleasing combo.
Squazz and I are co-hosting an engagement party here this weekend.
Our gardens decided to give up the ghost this week;
Just in time for Saturday's festivities.
These were once beautiful pink geraniums and bacopa.
They graced a balcony railing on the front of our house.
I threw them in the yard waste pile yesterday.
This clematis was beautiful.
You just have to take my word for it.
I swear: blooms like saucers.
I had to cut it back yesterday.
And this?
This is the waterfall today.
It was as if every bloom just gave up and vanished overnight.
Oh wait.
Here we go.
They'll probably be gone by the end of today.
To petunia heaven.
The roses?
Nope.
I may get another round of blooms out of them yet.
But not by Saturday.
At least we have these happy guys.
And the sunflowers are always good.
Maybe nobody will notice the lack of blooms around here.
I hate to go get mums this early in the season.
But I may have no choice.
Sigh.
Well, we always have these festive visuals.

Am I the only one out there suffering from a dearth of flowers this year?
Maybe they are in Mental Pause too.
Like Mama, like flower?

I planted all purple and white this last year. I think they are the most relaxing colors.
What are those yellow ones? I like.
You have cute feet.

its so hot and dry here mine are worse than yours ... there are NO blooms left... my little rose was putting one or two out... whoops I lie the moon plants are still putting blooms out in fact with the tiny bit of rain we got the other day (less than .25" ) they have gone nuts... they do get extra though as the roof drips on them... but yeah all the other flowers are GONE :( garden is dried up with a few maters and peppers but they will be gone soon!

I ♥ your yard...I have pretty much killed everything off here in the hot hot desert of Arizona...hopefully by some miracle there will be some little buds that were hiding and they will pop out for you in time for your shindig... It still looks beautiful!

I'm sorry about your flowers, but I think your yard is beautiful.

Although you aren't having any luck with the flowers, you appear to be able to grow grapes on your feet? While convenient, that might be hazardous as the roots could cause nerve damage in your foot. I'd see a podiatrist.

Too bad about your flowers' early demise but what's left sure does look lovely.. as do those feet!

Terrible flower year...terrible tomato year...BUT the grass and trees have been green green green!

I say you get a carload of those flip-flops and plant them around the yard for the party! Lovely!

Just wear those flip flops to the party and everything will be fine. What was the couple thinking to get engaged when your garden was dying? The nerve.

Those flip flops are a riot!!

I love your waterfall and your yard. Feed your guests lots of alcohol so they see double...double the amount of blooms!

Totally wear the flops. Can't go wrong with those!

My neighbor is like the gardening/flowerd queen. She always tells me that my flowers need chicken poop, water and miracle grow. I can do the last two but the chicken poop icks me out.

Oh we have black-eyed susan's too! This year they are MONSTERS!

Oh I so share in your pain....And what ones did not get hit by the heat, I have found have been hit by my boy dog and him "watering" the flowers. Do you know what that does to pretty pretty flowers? Well, let's say, they aren't as pretty as they used to be. But your yard is beautiful anyways. Have a great time this weekend!

I'm blown away - waterfalls, flowers that are alive, hosting a party! Wow. You are one busy lady. Updates later, please.

Those shoes are great! I think they will provide a distraction from your fading flowers.

Those bat wing begonias I planted with great fanfare and photos? All except 2 are dead ... I replaced the dead one with plain old boring begonas and they are thriving .. lesson learned... next spring ONLY boring plants.

Still love those tootsies AND I did do the St Lucia Lilac and it looked LOVELY

Still love the sandals... a lot!

My flowers have been disappointing as well. Summer came too late and then fried them while they were small. Sigh....

I am getting down to the nitty gritty - black eyed susans everywhere and anemones and toad lilies waiting in the wings. I hate how everything is just suddenly GONE in the space of one week!

What a shame that your lovely blossoms decided to go AWOL.

I say go out and buy some potted mums and add to the shopping list a few bottles of vino blanco.

Hope the engagement party is a success.

Actually, I am surrounded by flowers (and wasps) because that's what happens when it rains every stinkin' day for a year. ahem, sorry. I DO love those shoes. With those on, no one will be looking at the flowers-- have a great time!

I think your garden is beautiful, even if some of the blooms are giving up the ghost..

...Oh lordy girl, just plant those flip-flops in a pot and call it a day! lol... Btw, those are to die for! :o)

...Yes, I emptied out our window box which was busting full of petunias but they just petunia'd out *sigh*... So now it's onto the mums. And yes, I purchased them already. It didn't seem right but they're here and soon Autumn will be too. And just so you know, it's only 124 days 'til Christmas...lol... :oD

...Love the waterfall! Enjoy your party!

...Blessings...

tsannie and tj already said the exact thing I was going to say. Just stick a whole buttload of those flip flops toes up where your flowers USED to be and it will be almost--really, almost--as beautemous. I love your lavender toenail polish...very pretty!

And I also love that first pic of your waterfall/planter, and the one of the lavender and yellow flowers. I love that color combination. And that waterfall is just incredible. I could be very happy hanging out in your yard, even with the sad-looking flower remnants. It's the promise of those flip flops that could save the day!!! HA...

Okay, don't let anyone in the yard until they've had 3 glasses of Chardonnay...no one will notice all the death!

Egghead said...

The flowers around my pool had an early death because the reflection from the stone wall heats up so bad from the hot sun that they just wilt away. All that is except my cone flowers who seem to love it. Most everything else is doing well. I agree with everyone...just wear the flip flops and no one will notice a thing.

My bacopa's almost beat but it still looks ok. Since I moved, I only have the planter gardens and they're looking worse for the wear.

I can't believe you have a waterfall garden! How beautiful it is. You are so lucky. Oh, I thought of you just now because we just got home from Amish country and I need a drink. It's not that the Amish drive me to drink. But my husband does. Actually, I don't need an excuse, but I thought of you because I'm choosin' a chardonnay and I'm gonna sit in the yard with the camera.

I just read Cathy at Noble Pig's comment. Sounds like a plan to me.

The waterfall planter--amazing. The dead things, not so amazing but so typical of plants when you need them to be lovely. The shoes---hahahahahaha. Cool and refreshing and the sunflowers, they are the best of all. Thanks for the tour.

My flowers look the same...I say go ahead with the mums, if you want the impact of color..it will be beautiful! Let us know how it turns out!!

I don't miss having a yard (I live in a condo) until I see things like your waterfall planter...beautiful! OH..I have GOT to have those sandals! May I ask where you found them?

i think next year i'll just put fake plants in my hanging planters. they look worse than this by far.
