- The second year of college is dawning for the Mental P Twins.
- I already miss them more than my taut waist.
- I don't know how I managed this...
- But my two children are in the top tier of humans I have ever known.
- The top
five. - No. The top two.
- And I have to give props to their Dad, an amazing person.
- Even though we didn't work out, we managed to keep the needs of our children above our own nonsense. And nonsense it was. Especially on my part. I can own it now. I'm 50.
- And if it weren't for all their products in the bathroom, I would not have noticed they were here.
- The Bird hosted some smashing dinner parties. And worked hard all summer.
- Augie worked his you-know-what off at two jobs. And enjoyed his sister's social gatherings.
- Not that he needs her for his social endeavors....
- They often served as a driver for their mom....
- Even reminding me to save my money; I think I taught them a little too well.
- The laundry was often a pleasure for me. I think I may need help....
- Their ability to assess character is astounding.
- The Bird is the most diligent homekeeper there is. I seriously don't know where it came from.
- I am still ending sentences in a preposition.
- But I'm a little bereft. I'm excused.
Right?

I cried every day for a week when my oldest son left for college...every year! The only thing that saved my sanity when my second son left for college (2 years later) was the fact that he went to a university near our home and came home every single Thursday night to watch "ER" with me and every Sunday came home for dinner. I totally feel your pain!
Yes. You are excused.
I loved this post, and applaud you for recognizing your ex and his contributions. Bravo, my friend.
Mental P Mama I don't know you very well, yet :) But from reading your blog, and I mean I been reading way back, it does not surprise me that you have raised two wonderful young adults. And they, like you, seem to have such delightful personalities with humor. Humor gets us through life. I loved this post too!
I felt this. All the way down here in NC.
I've owned my mistakes too. Gah.
There was no doubt in my mind, after an hour with them? Successful, brilliant, talented..I though, attributed it to their Mama.
Just sayin....but I know it takes 2.
You are absolutely excused.........it is so tough having them leave home....and I understand the loving doing their laundry part.....I look at it and thing that in a short while it won't be here any longer and it makes me CRY!!!! STOP IT....I can't start AGAIN.......
You raised them well my friend and you should give yourself a pat on the back.......♥
think......the word is think.....it's still early here in AZ.....hahahaha I know no excuse....I have only had one Diet Coke....that's it!
I also love that as parent[s] you have worked together and made it the BEST you possibly could.....you must BOTH be amazing!
Of course you are bereft. Your kids are getting to the age that they don't need your constant care. That was hard for me too, but now we really do enjoy the quietness of just the 2 of us.
You will do fine, because they will do fine!
They were surely blessed with excellent parents. Lucky, lucky MPM young adults.
Brava to you .. and blow your nose ...
Loverly. All of it.
Awesome. Simply awesome.
I wish I could give you a big hug...hang in there Momma. Just think, a visit to Cville in the crisp, cool air of Fall. Priceless and SOOOOO worth it. Good luck for Year Two to the fledglings! Fly Birdies, Fly!
Absolutely you're excused.
I love this: "I miss them more than my taut waist."
What wonderful children you have raised!
And seriously, those sentences that just naturally end in a preposition. How are you supposed to end them otherwise? Some things I just can't wrap my head around. :)
Excused. Here's a tissue.
<><
What a lovely post MPM! You not only provided insight into your beloved twins, but your own charm and honesty as well.
Well done, my dear. Well done!
Go ahead and cry. I cried for weeks when my one and only went to college. Total, drippy, messy sobs! For weeks. I couldn't stop it so I just went through it until I was done. You're twins sound amazing, your tribute to your husband is touching, and you deserve kudos! Well done.
Of course, and your vocabulary is impressive. Where is my Webster's? Their 2nd year already? Wowzas.
I love how you look back at life and your marriage and own up to your crap. Hopefully their dad does the same. That is very cool. People who are married can take the hint and hit the "apply" button.
you are a grown up now.
Yes, you have amazing children. I am also one of the lucky parents to have raised two amazing young adults.
Life can't get much better than that!
Daughter blew through here last weekend on her way to law school & it was far too brief. Wait. I'm not sure she was really here.
Then son (in between semesters) blew in 4 days after her. It's beginning to feel like a revolving door here...
Your love for your children always makes me smile. :)
