Why Do You Blog?

I have recently published my 700th blog.
That's right.
700 of my wonderfully crafted tidbits have graced the Web.
Just let that sink in.
And on those days when I have nothing to write?
I sit here and wonder why I do this.
Why do I continue to write my mental meanderings?
And I don't know the answer.
I started it just to journal.
Then people started to comment.
And I went to visit them.
And they came back.
All of a sudden, I had all these friends.
Living in my computer.
And so on those days when I have nothing to say,
I sit here and say a bunch of nothing.
Because I like it in here.
And I like all my friends.
Now, to celebrate the 700,
I am giving away a book by a blogger!
Written by Catherine Sanderson,
Petite Anglaise is the true story of this British blogger
who lives in Paris.
And she gets herself into a pickle....

To enter the giveaway, just leave me a comment.
And tell me why you blog.
If you don't blog,
you can enter, too.
Just stop lurking and leave a comment;)
Contest ends tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8 PM EST.
Now go forth and blog!
Love, MPM

Congrats on the big 700! That's cause for a celebration. With wine, of course.

I like to write and it's enormously, incredibly gratifying when people like what I write and take the time to let me know. This sounds all "We Are the World," but the community of friends online is extraordinary. I enjoy being a part of it.

Congratulations on 700!!! That's a big deal!

I'm in a non-blogging slump right now. Corresponds with the life slump I'm in. Typically, though, it's the community that draws me in and keeps me. People like YOU! :) Thanks for being such a good bloggy friend.

for me its like a diary with feedback so i don't feel quite so alone (or mad) in my musings. i love connecting, feeling that i may have helped or just being supported, and it goes both ways, unlike most things in my life.

Congrats on 700!!

I find that I like it in here too. So many wonderful people live in my computer:) But I also blog because I have a terrible memory!!

700? You're so much older than me! heheh...I'm only 454!

I began blogging to give my family and friends updates while we traveled.
Now...I blog for myself! It's a form of expression much like a diary but in a public format. Well, not everything goes into the diary!
And through blogging, I have met some amazing people from all over the country. YOU, included.

I first started it to keep up with my writing progress, share with writer friends. Now I blog about all things in my life and share my photography. I think the thing that keeps me going is all the blogging friends I've met. The ones in my computer and the ones I've been lucky enough to meet in real life.

I don't know "why" I blog...Phil says it is because I have to many words in my head for him or anyone else to actually listen to.

I started my blog as a place to take all that randomness out of my brain...never knowing or ever thinking I would be so connected to so many people that I truly love and adore.

I am removing myself from the book giveaway since I got the last one, which I am almost finished with!

Congrats on 700 posts...here's to 700 more!!!

Congratulations Mama!

I started blogging when I was going through the hellacious anticipation of David joining the Air Force. It evolved into so much more.

I agree with you. My FRIENDS are in here. Then we followed each other to Facebook and Twitter and we all still just keep each other going day to day. It's virtual LOVE and friendships and smiles and tears.

And sometimes you're lucky and get to meet up with a virtual friend in real life :) And I met you!! The one and only MPM.

Gosh, sounds like I'm really suckin up LOL

I blog because initially I wanted a place to show off my photos ... and in the process I met some of the most interesting people many of whom I can now honestly call friends.

WOOT on #700

700? Wow!

I like to share recipes and that's how I got started blogging. It continues to change as time goes by as I find other things to write about. And, I love meeting new bloggy friends (like MPM) and enjoy reading their blogs. It is also a way to keep the fam/friends up-to-date.

Actually I started blogging to try and replace something that I had lost on-line. I was a member of a message board and really enjoyed the interaction with other people, but it all got too intense, too personal and I knew, as much as I loved the place I had to give it up. It was really hard. So to soften the emptiness I felt I set up a blog. I only had a readship of about 5 people for ages, because I never told anyone about the place.

I love my blog, well all of them actually. They all cover different aspects of my life. I blog because I found that it was a safe place to express myself. I feel blessed that the people who comment on my blog are articulate and leave interesting comments.

Even if no one read my blog I'd still write on it, because I don't really write for an audience I write for me.

I know I don't really tick all the right boxes, so I'm never going to have a massive following anyway.

Joey's pad is my on-line home, and anyone is welcome to join me there for a beer. :)

omg...that's a lot of posts. i can barely do one or two posts a week and there's some times no writing involved.

why do i even do it? i have met some great people over the years and hope to meet many more. and, i would also say it is a place for me to show my photos and try new things in that realm.

i am rambling...so i shall end

take care

I hope I've read all 700!! Bring on 701 :)

Why blog? All the reasons you mentioned, but the best one is certainly the friends. It's wonderful to think I've found a place to belong.

I haven't a clue in the world why I'm keeping this blogging thing going...But I do...and the friends I've met have been all kinds of wonderful.

Same reasons as you and as many times as I've thought I should walk away, I won't because of the community I've grown so attached to. You are one of those treasures I've found by blogging :-)
And...YOU have 700 posts under your belt? Holy cow, doesn't that make you a professional blogger? When does your book come out?

Congrats!!!!

Sometimes I don't know why I blog. I began it to share my stories and pictures with family and some close friends. And now I'm a worldwide industry with a famous blog and I can jetset to Paris at the drop of a beret.

I'm kidding. It's my dog that's the famous one.

Congrats on the 700th post.

Hey congratulations....I know why you blog, to find all those pictures of shoes.....

It has been fun getting to know you, and it is funny how we do come to know, relate, and understand people we have never even met. Isn't life funny?

Again, congratulations

Congrats Mama,
I started blogging for the same reason as you, and then I met all these wonderful people. Now I wonder how everyone is, and what they are doing when I'm not visiting them. It is a huge part of my life...glad to have met you too;)

First.....let me congratulate you on your 700th blog post!! That my dear friend, is quite an accomplishment!!!
I blog (occasionally LOL) because my darling NSLO told me to read a blog titled "The Mental Pause Chronicles" as it was hysterical and her friend's mom was the writer. Well, your musings have brightened my world since that fateful day. I tried to be as witty and charming and imagiative but alas...it did not work and my posts are few and far between.
Keep up the blogging, I need it!!

I like to write and my short term memory is going, dying in my aging process. This spring/summer was difficult to make myself write. Too many hard feelings coming up. But I am slowly resurfacing.

Congradulations on #700!!
I started my blog as a place to put some of my photos. Its also a place now where my out of this province family come and browse too. I like the comments, sometimes it feels like I never get visits, so I like the community as well.

Blogging is speaking out loud to God and leaving a written record!

Wow! 700 is a lot of posts! Congrats!

I began blogging just this last March. I found myself being too pessimistic, and I began blogging to remind myself to look for the joy in each day (writing about it held me accountable). And, I found a lot of bloggy friends that have added much joy to each day!

imom said...

Congrats on 700 posts! That's an accomplishment. I ask myself everyday why I blog, hahaha! I guess I see it as a recording of times in my life. Like a journal only not. I also love the friends I made so I just keep on posting.

I hope to read 700 more posts by you!

What an accomplishment! Thanks for doing it, by the way.

I blog to escape reality.

The End.

p.s. While it can be construed as "wasting" hours a day on the computer, it can also be argued that blogging replaces TV (for me anyway. Writing blogs and commenting --in theory--uses some brain cells, some creativity, etc.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' with it.

p.s.s.t - The computer friends have turned out to be better than some of my In Real Life friends. So that's the best reason of all to blog.

700 blogs, great job!....I have the attention span of a gnat. I'm not certain I've done anything 700 times....outside of the obvious.... filling a wine glass.

...Wow MPM - 700?! Way to go girl! :o) And "thank you" for all of your mental meanderings too, they've made many a day for me! ;o)

...When I had a blog I started it to just kinda converse with people, since I'm kinda quiet, altho' *ahem*, you'd never know that by my rather lengthy comments...lol Anyhoo, I quit blogging because I had no content, which means my life consists of *insert crickets chirping*... I do have to say, and I ditto what CBW said up there, that I have met some friends here who are better than my real life friends and for that, I am wholeheartedly thankful. :o)

...Congrat's on the big 7-0-0 and here's to 700 mo'! ;o)

...Blessings...

I'm not really sure except that I like doing it, even though somedays I wonder why on earth I blog. I, too, love the friends I've made. Two expecially, from Canada. I will probably never meet them in real life but I can honestly say I love them.

I don't think I've commented before, but I have definitely been lurking for months! Congrats on 700 witty, pithy, and deep posts...

I blog because I like to connect with other people who are passionate about something, whether it is their crafting, family or writing. This is what the internet is really supposed to be about, isn't it?

Congratulations on 700! Your blog was one of my inspriations to start my own. I have not been terribly dedicated lately so getting to 700 will take a while.

700 is a nice number. I just passed a year and haven't written it up yet.

I blog for my kids.
They never seem to pay much attention "live" but I know they are tuned in now, saying stuff like,
"So that's why Sunday lunch tasted weird."

Or,
"I wondered what happened to my shirts."

Or,
"I thought you and dad were married longer than that."

Someday I'll print it all off, hand it to them and click delete.
