The Year of the Bird

I love an underdog.
I love chutzpah and verve.
I love the ponies.
Mine That Bird: 2009 Kentucky Derby Winner.
50-1.

Well yeah...
But I can't help but wonder if the result would have been the same if Freisian Fire and I Want Revenge had been competitive. Still the Bird had a convincing stretch run! Very exciting!

I LOVE the Derby! LIVE for it! Have since I was six years old...use to be able to rattle off every winner... Our cable sucked yesterday and I did not get to watch it! That made me cry even more (I normaly cry when it is over). Am looking for re-runs today... I am so SAD!

It was the ONLY thing that cheered my husband yesterday. Today he is feeling much better and I am so glad for that.

Can I be honest? I missed the race. Can I be honest again? I don't understand the whole thing. I recognize it is a sport but never have been a pony girl.
But I love the title "The Year of the Bird"...it has sooo many meanings! :)

I swear I couldn't believe it. When watching the replay of the race by aerial cam...OMG I stood up and cheered again...my gawd that horse came out of nowhere....a round of MInt Juleps for everyone...on me.

This is a great photo. I don't know anything about the derby, but I love all the horses--'n stuff like that :)

I love races, love horses. We used to go to Charles Town, WV, periodically and bet on the ponies there. Once I won a hundred bucks on a long shot and thought I was going to faint. Instead, I just drank a beer.

Had no idea the derby was on. Beautiful horse.

Sadly, I missed it. The Bird. How awesome with the meanings...this tears me up more than the race would have but happy tears, Mama. Happy ones. The E-Bird will soar :)
