Chilling Out With Mama

When it's hot and humid outside, I pretty much stay inside my air conditioned cocoon house.  I don't like being hot.  If you don't believe me, you can check it out here or here.  To entertain myself, I generally watch television.  Too much television if you really must know.

Here's a smattering of what this latest hot/humid streak caused me to watch on television (please take special note of my passive role in all this):
  • Tori and Dean something something something...  This is a reality show with Tori Spelling (remember her? 90210?) and her husband Dean Somebody-or-other, and their cute baby.  I couldn't stop watching it.  Make sure you try to find the episode where very pregnant Tori is jealous of hubby's scuba instructor.  Pure gold there. (Oxygen Network.  Go ahead, Oprah could use the income)
  • Jon and Kate Plus 8--Another reality show about a couple who had twins, and then sextuplets.  If you ask me, the mother, Kate, is a bit of a beyotch.  But I don't know what I'd do with that many kids.  Almost too painful to watch, but better than being outside and sweating all your skin right off your body. (TLC)
  • Anything on Lifetime.  There I've said it.  I will watch just about anything on Lifetime. If you are looking for ways to keep cool this coming weekend, they are having a Christmas movie marathon.  Could be good.  Don't even get me started on the new season of Army Wives.  Loving it.
  • The Weather Channel.  Another problem entirely.  Go ahead, and ask me what the barometric pressure is.  Anytime.  I will know it.
Oh, and one more thing, I also finished David Sedaris' new book, When You Are Engulfed in Flames.  Another must-read from this genius.  So funny.

Let me know if you are still bored after all these terribly clever ways to beat the heat.  I have many other options for you...many. Just ask....

Ummm... Mr. Snooty is the Thermostat Nazi. So, after the bill came last week & he went into his normal rant (which I don't listen to), I told him I cannot live comfortably at 78 degrees farenheit. I told him to divorce me & find a new wife who has either gotten past menopause or is a long way from starting it. He wasn't amused so I said, in that case he must deal with it. Get me a house with a pool and I guarantee I'll not need as much A/C. Maybe.

This is why I don't have cable. I would be all googly-eyed from watching too much important TV. As it is, on free TV, I get giddy at the thought of Big Brother starting this month. And I don't care what the cost is, the air conditioner is non-negotiable :)!

You take that back about Kate!! She has 8 kiddos running around all trying to suck the life force out of her. I say she's not bitchy enough!!

AC is a must...Con Ed or not. And must be cool at night cuz that's when I am sweating! God created blankets for those who are cold.

8 kids is 6 too many (for me and I only have one!),she is a byotch and he is passive.

I also watch John Edward on WEYV. Saw him in person and got a reading, so I am hooked.

Stay cool. AT least it is not raining!

Our temp stays at 72 during night and 76 during the day, all day, I don't want to talk about electric bills, aye!!!

I watch lifetime too, although most of the time I am too busy for tv...I have recently become Tory addict and I watched that same episode Sunday, yikes!

I don't know from air conditioning. Even our very nice hotel in Canada was overwhelmed by 90+ degrees and every room wanting to be a balmy 68. In the morning we'd go for a walk and the'd have the hallway doors propped open to get the cool morning air in.

I personally like Kate. (and Jon) Sure, she's tense... but I'm not sure I'd be any less tense if I had 8 kids.

HGTV, baby, HGTV! I could (and sometimes do) watch it all day!

Thank God John and Kate have a TV show...at least they can pay the bills for those 8 (!!!) kids!

I can't watch Jon and Kate anymore after I read articles about them (NOT in the Enquirer) and what an opportunist she is. Feels the government owes her more than she has already been given.

Now, about the weather channel. Suffice it to say, I hope you get outside soon.

Kate is a little snotty sometimes, I mean with having to have everything perfect and she does have help. But God help her with how she does it! David even watches this show! Lifetime..yeppers. Weather channel of course and I'm a friggin news channel whore!

I was at your post for the underground hotel and they were talking about this bbc guy or jerk commenting somewhere and now I'm OCD'ing on what ya'll were talking about and where is his blog! Help!

I love what you told your hubby about finding someone else who has gone through it already. That's good!

Our house stays at 72 day and night. Heck our window unit in the bedroom sometimes gets down to 66 when I am really flashing. Trucker just sleeps with about three blankets and knows not to complain. I might just slap him if he did. I jest.

I'm afraid I have to agree about Kate. I can't help thinking that someday, when Jon just snaps, she will be the victim on MSNBC Investigates... Is that a horrible thing to say?

Stay cool!
xoxo,
Mary

About the only tv that I must watch is "Jeopardy."
And this year for the first time I started watching "Dancing with the stars."
I used to watch ballroom dancing competions but they don't have that on anymore.

When it is hotter than hades you read a book titled "engulfed in flames"? Why? I know about heat we live in the Arizona desert, again I ask why? My husband digs it...it is six months of bad mood for me if you care to know. As you can see my mood lately is in the toilet... Yeah I watch reality tv as well and sometimes it makes my reality not quite so bad! Today is one of those pity me feeling days...definately MENOPAUSE/OLD AGE AND THIS DADBLASTED HEAT!!! Life do suck when it's hotter than the surface of the sun! I raised five and that was/is draining! Still have a couple sons home...

My girls are totally addicted to J&K + 8. I would be a bitch on wheels if I had 8 kids (can barely handle 2!) Thank God for wine!

I secretly watch the Tori show reruns when I'm working from home. I'm loving the fact that they can't afford a house of their own. It makes me feel better about myself. Yeah...I know..I need therapy.

Oh good God do I get this. If the dew point hits 60, I'm a cavewoman (such a wuss). I love me some TLC and watch way. too. much. I confess to not hating Kate.

I LOVE Jon and Kate Plus 8. I DVR it so I can watch it every week. She is a little bossy, but I would be too if I had that many kids, infact, I think I would single living in Mexico if I had that many kids. I am so desparte that I am even watching "WipeOut". I can not believe that I would watch something THAT stupid. But it is funny. And then I have to watch the Bachlorette, I HAVE to watch that and next Monday she picks one of the two guys. I would NEVER do something like that show....NEVER..
so why do I watch it??? I have no idea? Well I have to go now, have to go watch my DVR shows.

Tori and Dean, weren't they ice skaters? ;-)
Summer here? For some reason the Brits think everyone is outside enjoying themselves and they put Wimbledon on the first 10 channels and Big brother on the rest. It sucks. They stopped airing Desperate Housewives before the season finale (?!), Grey's Anatomy re-runs just disappeared. I'll just have to keep reading (oh the torture).

I am laughing out loud reading this post. Can't believe you're watching Tori Spelling, but I admit, I've gone down that road a time or two myself. So glad to hear you love David Sedaris. He rocks. Have you read his sister's books?
Your picture over at Annie's was nice.

I'm sorry but if I ever had to watch Tori and Dean I would have to jump my big old HOT menopausal bum in the TV and put Bandaides over Tori's eyes and press really tightly. My cranky hot self just can't handle her. I hear you about hot. I hate hot.
