Listen to Your Mama

Mind your manners.  It shows respect for others.

There is great peace of mind in admitting that you don't know everything.

Always be interested.  It makes you interesting.

Make sure you can laugh at yourself.

Dream big and act to make it happen.

Eat more vegetables than anything else.

Do not smoke. Ever.

There is no such thing as perfection.

Being afraid is okay, just don't let it stop you from doing your best.

Hold your shoulders back and your head high.

Be thankful for everything you have.

Smile.

Know that you are loved and cherished.

To be continued.

Any others out there?

Consider your glass half full. Then fill it.

Kiss your mama!

No regrets. Ever. You can't change the past, but you don't have to repeat it.

Hug your mama, too!

What Augie is thinking:

"Mama, If you take ONE MORE PICTURE of me, it's gonna get ugly!"

Love anyway, Augie

If you can learn from other people's mistakes, you can cut down on your own. And wear clean underwear of course. With no holes.

Y'all are so smart...and Annie, I told him he would regret making another face at me. I have to follow through, right? And Deb, isn't that story at Foolery the saddest? Makes us all thankful, and want to go give our babies an extra hug.

A couple from Gen. Patton...

"Always Forward Never Retreat"

"If everyone is thinking alike then someone isn't thinking"

and a personal favorite from Anthony Bourdain... which I'm sure he probably got from the military...

"Prior preperation prevents piss poor performance"

I repeat those to my kids all the time.

Never look back and regret but learn from those mistakes.

Never say anything in anger.

Choose your words carefully so they don't come back and bite you.

For each action their are reactions.

Think of the consequences.

Pain is good. It alerts us to problems.

Dr. Paul Brand, who discovered the cure for leprosy, also discovered that the reason lepers have missing noses and digits is because they scrape or cut themselves and don't know it because they don't feel the pain. Hence they don't treat the wound and the leprosy kicks in more quickly. Pain is good.

Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral or fattening!

Beauty is only skin deep, ugly goes to the bone

If everything seems to be going well, you obviously do not know what the hell is going on

And the two most important..
MaMa's always right and
Don't tell everything you know.

You either *get it* or you don't. Be one of those who *gets it*. My kids always loved that one.

I also always told them they could always call me NO MATTER WHAT, with no questions asked. I stuck to that (unbekownst to Mr. Snooty), so they always called me. As did some of their friends. Better to have a kid who is safe & alive than one who isn't.

You've made a great list.

Because of our faith, we tell our kids to

Live for the Lord and everything else falls under that: how you live your life and how you treat others.

Mental P Mama. You have listed the best, with manners at the top of the list! Great picture BTW.

flash stitcher--I'm a good ol' southern girl, too and my mama taught me all about manners! Thanks for visiting.

My mother always said "there isn't any such word as can't. You can do anything you want if you put your mind to it". You know I hated it when she said that because usually I was in the midst of a whining tantrum that something was too hard to do and wanting to quit. But she never let me and she was right.

Safety First

I threatened to have it tattooed on my girl's behinds. I'd rather come get them if they'd had a drink then lose them if they got in the car with a drunk.

This may be the best post I've read all week, truly beautiful.

One more life lesson to add:

NEVER be intimidated by anyone. Those who try to intimidate you generally have no substance or skill.
