...and into the winner's circle.
10 year-old Stump, a Sussex Spaniel, took Best in Show last night at the Westminster Dog Show in New York City. That's 70 in people years. In case you didn't know. Stump was retired in 2004, and almost died from a mysterious disease; 5 days ago, his trainer decided to give him a last trot around the ring. The rest is history. You go Stump! An inspiration to all of us out there starting our next acts!

That's a heartening story, MP!!! And he's a beauty. Thanks for the cheer.
Cheers to you too on this glorious day. Don't mind me. I've had too much coffee. And the birds are singing in my mind.
That's really wonderful - and on so many levels!
I think Kate up there feels spring in the air.
There is hope for us after all
There is hope for us after all
I continue to hope for a Chihuahua victory! But this will do nicely in the meantime... what a great story!
There's still hope for us 50 somethings and near 50 something gals!
Last year, my beloved beagle won. Let's hope that Asthmagirl gets her wish next year!
Good job, Stump! And so handsome, too!
Thanks for sharing this; it made me feel oddly better about being a 52 yo college student. Right when I needed it, too! :)
Isn't that just an amazing story? And Stump looks pretty darn good if I might say!!!
By the way, we all survived the storms. Daughter had a close call in the OKC/Edmond area, but she is fine. Thank goodness after all that work we just had done on her little house!! ha ha ha Wouldn't that have been just my luck?
I heard this on the news this morning! I loved it!
Just goes to show you there aint no truth in the words~ "you cant teach an old dog new tricks."
What a beautiful dog!
I just love the name, Stump.
Chalk one up for the senior crowd!
Here, here!
This was such a great story!

You go, Stump! Stump is like a fine wine...he just keeps getting better with age. Kinda gives us 50 something gals a bit of a boost.
Way to go for Stump. There is hope for the rest of us!!
You & Jules are all about the show today, huh?!! You know what they say about great minds :)
And Stump was cured at Texas A&M University -- by Aggies -- how about that?
Amen Mental P! Though I would personally prefer not to be entered in a dog show...
Stump is adorable regardless of age!
That IS an inspiration.
Stumpie,I'm with ya'a, fellah.
I heart Stump:)
I love Stump. He's beautiful and doesn't look a day over 20! Yes, there is hope for us all. Even the humans (me) who are being treated as dogs.
I am about to bite!
Country Girl has birds singing in her mind- I have tornadoes whirling around in there!
What a great picture. Good ol' Stump gives me hope.
I hope he didn't come out of retirement because the economy has hit him so hard.
Even if that is so, he is a Winner, and STILL gives me hope.
Proving once again that age is just a number.
The best part?
His name. STUMP. How perfect is THAT.
I wonder if he's going to Disney Land?
Amen and thank you for bringing this to our attention. I feel younger already...
Stump is such a beautiful dog! Wow! Love the story. I love to be inspired.
Ok, now I can go to bed because I finally came to a post that made me feel all warm and fuzzy and happy all around. Nighty-night.
