The Lion Roars In

Up until Saturday, we had had a nice March.
Up until Saturday...
Almost every street has these scenes.
We watched this tree go down in our back yard.
It happened in slow motion.
Across the street...
The morning after: Dude. Where's my house?
Schools are closed today.
Many are without power.
And may be for more than a week.
But my family is safe.
My friends are safe.
And for that, I am thankful.
How was your weekend?

Apparently my weekend was better than yours, even if my Saturday was spent cleaning my mother-in-law's house. We got lots of rain and wind, but no damage. Hope things are back to normal soon.

Mine was better than yours, too. It doesn't look very nice on your street. I hope this week is better and the clean up won't be too difficult!

I see I made the right decision about postponing my visit ... it was so horrendous here that I canceled plans to go to Soho and buy the sofa .. and I heard that NJ has had in 3 days the same amount of rain they normally get in the whole month of March .. and its still raining.

Glad everyone is safe and you have electricity ...

Glad to hear you all are safe.

You know, either I'm going blind or my electricity isn't at full power. Will keep you posted on which bad news it is..

I'm so glad you and yours are safe! I'll be thinking of you and your family.

My weekend went well although we've learned we may need a new roof and a dear friend's house caught on fire yesterday - she's fine, the family's fine, and the house will be fine. Blessings.

Wow - and we thought the wind was bad down here this weekend! I am so thankful that you and yours are safe and sound!

Oh my! I'm glad no one was hurt. We get winds like that, but not this mild winter!

Dull. By comparison and it included a wedding.

Good grief, hope no one was injured.

I was thinking about you when I saw what Mother Nature was up to. Dang her! Glad you are safe.

Ouchy! I am glad you are all okay. I will stop with the intense weather events, okay.

You all have had some interesting weather. Wow. I had a Reuben this week-end after spending 7 hours watching boys race their Pinewood Derby cars. The quiet and steady rain was okay, too. No snow. No wind.

My weekend was less exciting than yours!
Thank goodness everyone is okay!

Ach! Glad you all are alright! Mine was wet also. Very, very wet. I think my horses and goats better learn how to swim.

we didn't lose power, and i haven't been out - but the kid's school soldiered on with limited power and phones and no heat. yeah, we got a text saying "dress warmly" - the heat was back on mid-morning, but i was kind of happy that they didn't get all wussy and cancel school for no heat.

Oh Lauren, I'm so glad you are OK. I was thinking about you on Sunday. We had that nasty storm too, but not nearly as MUCH damage, at least not in my immediate neighborhood... just some water in the cellar here...

Wow, what a storm.

Oh, my gosh! I hope you have power soon. Luckily it's not too cold but the damp wet weather makes it seem so. My weekend was a washout, spent sleeping or blowing my nose. Very not nice.

Yowza, I had no idea it was that bad. WE had some fierce winds Friday night, but nothing like that.

oh wow looks like a tornada went through!! Storms like that can be scary! I'm glad you are alright! Are you handy with a chain saw?

Oh my goodness! I guess I have been living under a rock. I am glad you and yours are safe and sound.

Interesting to say the least. Just got electricity at 6pm tonight!

So glad all are well. Did you loose power?
Took NSLO 8 hours via amtrak to get to school
We were out for almost 2 days but managed with a generator. But no real damage from trees. Missing a few shingles at our house, a huge whole in the garage roof at my MILs house..but life goes on thanks goodness and that is why we pay our insurance.

Oh man, what was that about. That is quite the storm. Glad you fared alright, however that backyard tree...ugh.

Lisa said...

Oh my goodness....That is something else. I know you are just so happy with being safe, but man, that is one horrible storm. We have tornado's here so often that we often forget that others go through such tragedy's and not always tornados. I am so thankful you are safe as well as your friends.

Wow.. that's alarming. I'm glad you're ok.. but that's some mess to clean and damage to repair. I'm glad nobody was harmed.

I've been watching this on the news. Wow. That is a shame, all of those big beautiful trees!

OMG I've been away for a few days now and wasn't aware of this. So happy you are all safe and sound. However sorry about your tree. Was it only high winds or did a tornado come roaring through?

I'm a glass half full kind of idiot. I see those downed trees and think, Well, those will never crash through Mama's roof! Or TSAnnie's, or anybody's. Glad you're safe and hope March just shuts the h*ll up the rest of the month.

Flea said...

Omigoodness. So many beautiful trees down. An ice storm did that to Tulsa a couple of years ago. After the initial trauma and clean up, it's nice seeing sunlight flood in where it wasn't before.

I would have cried watching that tree go down. I am SO glad you're safe!!
I'll stop whining about my lackluster weekend now...
