Is it just me, or do you sometimes get a touch of the melancholy this time of year? I love Thanksgiving, and all the wonderful food and times with family and friends. And Christmas has always been my favorite holiday. But you could almost set a clock on my blue mood's arrival every year at this time. Sigh. It arrived yesterday at 3:59 pm.
This is all compounded this year by the fact that MY puppies are 7 weeks old today, and are going to be leaving us for their forever homes very soon.
I am not even going to discuss my own offspring who are poised on life's diving board.... I really need to concentrate on getting myself a life. Any ideas?
HUMMMM those pups are ADORABLE! I dont get the blues over thanksgiving... Martha was born on thanksgiving day she was my 6 27 am 9 pound 10 oz TURKEY. BUT Christmas I have a very strong love HATE relationship with... always have... I love giving but seem to get totally frustrated and downright angry before its all over and some years are absolutely better than others but christmas time is when No one likes me too well... because i can go from happy to witch in under a nano second... sigh Smurf... cute...this too shall pass!
I can so empathize with your state of Melancholy, because I live in the state called Lethargic, which is located in the country of Borderline Depression during all the winter months and particularly hate the lack of daylight starting at 5 p.m.
Wouldn't it be nice if they made a detox patch you could slap on your forehead to remove all the bad feelings?
Some ideas....
1. Volunteer - I do Meals on Wheels every so often and it is immensely rewarding. It gets you out of the house and focused on helping others, which takes away from wanting to shoot yourself.
2. Exercise more. (Yeah, right, but I'm saying it any way.)
Didn't you hear on the news that some of the new families have agreed to have a web cam on their new puppies? Do I see a glistening in your eyes? Don't be blue, Mama, there is so much to be thankful for...and just remember you have your blogging friends who care bout ya!
I feel your blue pain. I used to conduct all-out interviews when letting any baby leave my home. People thought I was insane, but I had to be sure they were going to the proper homes.
And, your babies are just too precious for words. No wonder you have a touch of melancholy!
Frankly, holidays have been hard ever since hubby's parents passed away. So, I just adopt Scarlett O'Hara's attitude. I'll think about it tomorrow...
thanks for your visit to mine and kind message! sorry you are feeling blue - but blue is a good colour for meditation and i see you've done a bit of that so maybe you can turn it around that way? empty nest time is a tough one... funny - when i was a fledgling i didnt see it. If chicks are leaving home successfully and stretching their wings - its a testament to good parenting. blog it all :-)
You've done a great job and they will go out and prove that your example has been exceptional...my ♥ does go out to you...it is very hard cutting apron strings with you children....
and those adorable puppies...they are just so gorgeous! Maybe you need to come and soak up some Arizona SUNSHINE!!! We are in the 80's with a chance of rain, but I am so looking forward to that...it will help me feel like the holidays are coming...I WANT THE COLD TO COME! Feel better mama.
Oh, honey. Children leaving home is bad enough, but puppies, too? No wonder you're blue. Sounds normal to me. I think wine drinking and shoe shopping is in order.
Cheer up Mama! Before you know it, you'll be heading out to party with the crazy country bloggers here in the beautiful Commonwealth of VA:)
In the meantime, look for opportunities to sneak in those random acts of kindness. Get gifts for a child whose name is on the Angel Tree, help a nice old lady with her packages, SMILE at people....it's painless. Then, go home and drink wine.
Adorable pups, no wonder you are blue. If this occurs yearly, you could also be sensitive to the decreasing sunlight (i.e., seasonal affective disorder).
I too feel you pain. My honey and I are empty nester's with a 26 year old daughter and a 22 year old son. We are going to Fla to visit our daughter this Thanksgiving but we will be without her at Christmas. This will be the first time. Puppies are your four legged babies. I used to show and raise Cocker Spaniels. They did not go to just anyone. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
This is why I couldn't bear to breed pups - I wouldn't be able to part with them.
As for the kids, for me it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. He was ready and I just had to trust that we raised him right and he would be okay. Of course, having my good friend Nurse Nancy nearby helped.
I am sorry, I have no idea's. I am so emotional today and always get this way around this time of year as well. I cryed at work 3 times today. Once was over an email from my oldest that upset me????? Mine gets worse every year. I feel alone this time of year when I don't normally?? Thanks for sharing!
Light shade of blue? I've been a blubbering idiot-- seriously, almost to the point of not being able to function. Yesterday's trigger was thinking how my two youngest children have never made a spice drop turkey. Or a handprint turkey. Does this go away any time soon?
I get the exact same way at this time of year. I think it is b/c it gets dark so so early and there is really no way to prep for it. Also, as parents, of pets or people, it's hard not to see life passing you by as you watch you kids and puppies grow up and move on. I'm giving you a big hug. Happy Thanksgiving
No, my dear blue Mama, you are not alone in this! I get this way too and in my case, I long for the wonderful times that have passed and want a "do over"!
I've started to just be thankful when I wake up that I'm breathing and can wiggle my toes and feet and then all else seems minor. Now, it doesn't work EVERY day, but it does help.
You'll be with the kids in their new journey and they will still need their Mama :) I promise.

I'm wondering if your shade of light blue could land you a job as a smurf...
Cheer up, MPM. Your blues will pass and your kidlets' journey will confirm that you've done it right. Then you'll find some of your own answers.

I'll be sending you a shade of dark blue before you know it. :)

It'll be difficult no doubt. I doubt if it is possible to get philosophical about emotions as dear as these.
I suppose time will tell.
The pups are adorable.
Yes, I think you need a puppy. I bet even Dora would like a puppy to lick.

Feel better?
I'm hearing ya, Mama! Blue looks good on you, but then so do other colors. And this, too, shall pass.
I wish I weren't so alone on Thanksgiving, but I'm thankful for so much. I know you are too. And it's senior year. I hear you. I've been there . . .
I don't get blue just crazy! Eat a lollipop, it puts your mouth in at least half smile mode.
Come to NYC lets talk over some wine
:-Daryl
I feel melancholy too. Happy Thanksgiving!

I can totally relate. Even though it is a blessed time, we can really get the blues. Wine helps.
