This-n-That Thursday

One down and one to go:
  • The boy-child was successfully deposited at school.
  • I barely embarrassed him at all.
  • It was scorching hot.
  • His dorm is unairconditioned, but all the boys have big fans.
  • He has three roommates.
  • They all seem like nice boys.
  • But I wonder if they'll ever get any work done.
  • As I was leaving, they were assembling a basketball hoop. In the hallway.
  • Ruby Tuesday restaurants have pimento cheese things on their menus. I love pimento cheese, and never get any up here in New England.
  • The Bird goes to school on Saturday.
  • I hope I continue to keep my embarrassing behavior to a minimum then as well. But you never really know. Especially with me.

Make some pimento cheese please.

I love pimento cheese, too! I say you MUST visit Ruby Tuesday often, preferably the one closest to the boy-child! :) Because you really should also check to make sure that the assemblage of the basketball hoop went okay. It's your duty as The Mama! HA!!!

I will be thinking of you on Saturday. And...it seems to me that, when it comes right down to it when it counts, you are doing an excellent job of "keeping it together" (for the kids!), no matter how you're feeling inside. Another one of those duties as The Mama.

You truly do rock, ya know! :)

HOLY COW... Small world.. Yes this blog thing does keep us in circles but two of mine have crossed for the first time and it is weird..

You know my Kim-D!

and by the way.. it is our duty to embarrass our children.. it was rule 259 in the handbook.

RT has pimento cheese? Yum. Laura Peach made a grilled cheese the other day and I told her to send you one.

I'm glad he got settled and it sounds like a normal fun-filled dorm! That's what it's all about :)

I just wrote you a long email. You're doing good Mama...as well as possible.

Did he do the eye roll thing at you? I'm very sensative to the eye roll thing.

I'd make some pimento cheese for you if I could. :)

Having kids in college in different cities leaves many road trip options, especially during football season!!

Pimento cheese! Always have a tub in the fridge...recipe so you can have your own?

1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup grated sharp cheddar
1 cup grated Monterey Jack
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon House Seasoning, recipe follows
2 to 3 tablespoons pimentos, smashed
1 teaspoon grated onion
Cracked black pepper
Directions
Using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese until smooth and fluffy. Add all of the remaining ingredients and beat until well blended. It can be used as a dip for crudite or as a sandwich filling.

House Seasoning:

1 cup salt

1/4 cup black pepper

1/4 cup garlic powder

Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

Ok...tell me you love me.

I tell my girls that I will be embarrassing them their whole lives and to please just deal! (which is what my mom told me and I deal!).

Ah, but someday they'll have children of their own to embarass. It all comes around in time, no worries.

I'm so glad that all went well. A sigh of relief for you.

Unair-conditioned rooms? I can hardly feature it.

I'll be thinking of you and the bird.

Saturday evening for a dinner party we grilled filet mignons and topped them with pimento cheese. Oh yes we did.

yuck no airconditioning. Can't imagine how that dorm is going to smell after they finish playing basketball in the hallway.

Good luck on Saturday with your daughter. I can't imagine that she would EVER find your behavior embarassing. And if she did, why in the world would you want to keep it to a minimum? :)

what pimento cheese things? I have my peppers to roast, so I need to think about things with pimento cheese on them.

No a.c.? That's abuse where I come from,but he's young, he'll repress those memories.

If you have a designated driver you can get smashed and weep copiously...it'll make whatever kid who witnesses it swear off drinking forever or at least until forty, which will get them well through college unless there are many advanced degrees. And give them stories to repeat the rest of their lives...remember when mama....

If I don't get some pimento cheese within 15 minutes, things are going to get ugly. Grocery store, here I come, and people? Steer clear of the dairy case.

LOL! I remember those dorm moves. It's always hot, and reiquires carrying large things up flights of stairs! And I think we embarass them just by breathing - or heaven forbid - asking a question of someone!

It's really a good thing that middle-aged moms don't typically live in dorms.

Marlene is an amazing recipe source, isn't she?

Congratulations to the boy-child. But extra congrats to you. One down, one to go. It will be a piece a cake. A piece a crumb cake.

That first time you drop one off at college - oh my, I never cried so hard in the car on the way home!

Pimento cheese - geez - I haven't had any of that since I lived in the south! Love the stuff!

LOVE Pimento cheese-- It was one of my cravings when I lived in a dinky little town that had never heard of the stuff.

Embarrass away-- it's your right.

Pimento Cheese yummy and anytime! One of my favs.
With Little T, I always get the "Moooom! Jeez!" And then the happy stomp. I guess I will just let his dad haul him off to college while I check into my room in Cancun. Hmmm this college thing may not be so bad after all!

Angel Mama said...

I don't even want to think about college! Mine is going into 8th grade, and I'm in denial about THAT! But - COLLEGE!! Oh I'm gonna cry.

You're doin' good, my friend. And Partner's was FUN!

I have never even head of pimento cheese but now I have to have some. Thanks, Marlene, for the recipe!

As for embarrassing behavior, you're doing something wrong if you don't throw summa that in once in a while. Lay it on thick, then go home and sunbathe topless, which is the whole benefit to empty nesting, I think.

Hang in there, Mama! : )

Oh, good luck on Sat. At least they are spread out a bit. I'm sure you are going to do fine.
