This-n-That Thursday

Nonsense:
  • I am older than President Obama.
  • I feel older than dirt sometimes.
  • Anybody have tips on getting liquid meds into a cat. Said cat has not been declawed.
  • I think I already need stronger reading glasses.
  • I am hopelessly addicted to the Word Warp game on my iPhone.
  • What's the best thing to put on cat scratches?
  • I am an expert at growing crab grass.
  • I love Shark Week on the Discovery channel.
  • My children have been on vacation for the last week, and I am fine. This college business might just be okay. Maybe.

Snicker...I have a pair of glasses for my computer and another pair for reading. As for the reading pair, me thinks it needs to be boosted a bit.
I'm an expert on the disney channel, morning hours that is. Micky Playhouse, Hi 5, Handy Manny...I know them all by heart.
College will be fine once you get a couple weeks under your belt. Promise.

About that cat, what works for me is if I huff and puff, stomp my foot a time or two, state very loudly about how I have to do everything around here, and say something like, "Well, I can't do it, I guess he'll have to miss a dose," within earshot of my children. They always take over and get the medicine down somehow.

Why in the world I go through that drama and don't just ask them to do it upfront is beyond me.

Give medicine very carefully. How about using a doll bottle?

At least you look better in your "Mom Jeans" than Obama.

Wrap kitty in a towel, have Squazz hold him, pry his mouth open and in you go.

I think you are gonna be fine.

I wrap my kitty up tightly in a towel. It works every time. Also, while I have her in the towel I pull out one paw at a time and I trim her nails with regular ole' nail clippers. Helps with the cat scratches!

Wrap Noelle in a towel, sort of like swaddling her .. leaving her face out so you can force open her mouth and then squirt the meds down .. OR you can ask the doc for pill form (almost all meds come in both pill or liquid) and then hide said pill in chopped up chicken or tuna fish and let her eat it out of your hand the way we do with Gus .. who is not declawed and who has to take a pill a day his entire life.

And if you get scratched .. wash it with soap/water and then spray bactine or some other antiseptic on it.

Everybody already gave my "wrap in a towel" advice. So I'll give you my pet care secret advice - pay someone else to do it. Bribery works every time:)

I love shark week too. Although I do start hearing the Jaws music if I am in the ocean over my head...

i just wash with dawn dishsoap and let them scab over... (cat scratches that is)

Hydrogen peroxide.

We'll see about that other stuff.

You're going to be just fine.

I remember a few years ago when I read somewhere that Mick Jagger was older than our President (Bill Clinton at the time). That felt WEIRD.

Larry can come over and give your kitty her meds. He is very, very good at it. Should have been a vet.

Having four cats I've become a pro at this...

Wrap cat in a towel like a burrito only leaving his head out. Take your finger and thumb and pry jaws open. Use a syringe type medicine dropped and insert as far back into the side of the jaw as you can safely go. Squirt medicine down cats throat.

Slowly unwrap cat and jump backwards.

Let me know how that works out for you.

Oh and please...you are so gorgeous. Dirt is not gorgeous and you are not old!

tj said...

...I 2nd what Audrey said up there - you are gorgeous and I thought you were younger than me. Ya look it anyway...*sigh* ;o)

...Btw, the wrapping the cat in a towel is a good idea but we always gently take a handful of fur in our hand much like a mother cat picks up her kittens and lift our cat up so it is totally helpless and when you lift 'em up like that they pretty much open their mouth and we just squirt the meds in. There's something about picking a cat up like that that seems to transport them back to their kitten days...it's almost as if they know, "oh crap, she means business!" lol... My husband usually does the actual grab & hold and I do the motherly talking and administering the meds. It does work, you just have to get past grabbing and holding your cat like that. Try it, you'll see... :o)

...Good luck! Blessings... :o)

tj said...

...I just got to thinking your cat has had surgery so you may not want to lift her up but if you just grab her fur behind her neck and gently pull, just like a mother cat, and have your husband hold her front feet so she can't scratch and administer the meds that a way... Otherwise, do the towel trick... :o)

I am older than the President too. Can we start a club?

I always squirt the liquid meds some tuna. My fat cat gobbles it up.

At least you are not at the bifocal stage. I pick mine upi next week. GAWD!

There's nothing like having a president that's younger than you to make you feel like you're getting older (I can say this because I'm 12 days older than you!). Gah, I felt a few more gray hairs spring forth.

You'll adjust to having an empty nest. And then they come home and disrupt your new life. And then they leave again and you have to adjust. It's the circle of life for parents of college students.

College will be awesome.

For them.

It's the beginning of the rest of your life for you. And it will be beautiful.

Because you are.

Word Warp, huh?

Have you tried Moxie?

(And I'm older than the president too.)

Oooo I am so there with the glasses...trifocals...I have gone blind in my old age...but I am older than you and Obama probably put together....glad that you are doing okay on your own...I have worried about you....

Getting meds into a cat - no matter if they still have claws or not - is certainly NOT fun! I just went through this with Skor. Sometimes I could squirt it in his mouth when he opened it to "complain." Sometimes I had to wrap him - mummy style - in a towel with all four feet encased so I could hold him down to get the meds in. Are you using a dropper or a syringe? The syringes are MUCH easier! They "shoot" the liquid faster!

liquids into cat...bundle said cat into a towel. Keep antibiotic cream handy. You do use an eyedropper, don't you?

Gah! I need new glasses too and I'm not eligible for insurance coverage on new ones until Feb!
