Some Answers

I have some answers to your burning questions from my oh-so-clever post yesterday.  You all must know that I actually feel like we are all good friends, so I want you all to mix and mingle together, and get to know each other. Mkay?

Flea asked "Where I did you get that t-shirt?  And are the leaves turning here in Connecticut?

Well, my good friend Jules gave me this shirt.  I love it.  And the leaves are starting to turn.  Especially the sugar maples, which are the very best show-offs we have.  I will try to get some shots for a Sunday Serenity post.

Krysta wants to know when all will be right in the world.

I have no idea, and I am scared most of the time.  I do know that, eventually, it will all work out some freakin way.

Phd In Yogurtry  wants a wine that goes with goat cheese.

While we did not have any goat cheese in our recent field trip, Annie has posted a lengthy summary of our wine and cheese class, and I highly recommend you check it out.  I would say, offhand, the 2004 Domaine Bott-Geyl, Pinot d'Alsace.  We had it with a wonderful sheep's milk cheese, and I would also love that with a refreshing goat cheese.  But I only know enough about this to be dangerous in a liquor store , so you may want to ask Noble Pig.

Bear Naked Had some nice, fluffy things to say.

Annie wanted to know if we were going to be lighter at our 5:30 Weight Watcher's weigh-in.

I have previously declared that I am no longer discussing this Weight Watcher's nonsense until I no longer think of it as nonsense.  I still have some maturing to do.  Like a fine wine.

Suz @ alive in wonderland wants to know if I think men over the age of 40 should use the word "hottie?"

Um.  Nope.

Debra (a/k/a doris, mimi) invited me over.  Apparently she has plenty of wine to share.

Debra, be careful what you tell me.  Be very careful.

Chesapeake Bay Woman wants to know what I want to be when I grow up.  She also recommends drinking between one and six glasses of wine to help with these mental nuthin' blocks I sometimes have.

Well, I don't think I want to be a grown-up.  I just had this conversation with my accountant.  Really.  You can call and ask her.  And I have that wine-drinking business covered.  Trust me.  You'll see when I come visit.  I can't wait to get to Virginia.

Deb wanted to know why I failed to post the latest pictures of Posh's pumps.

Kim-d wants to sing a Diana Ross song.  Do I know where I'm going to?  Do I like the things that life is showing me? Do I know?

No. Yes. No.

Tammy sees a lot of promise for a new blog header in that t-shirt picture.

Tammy, I think you're onto something.

MsMVNJ asks what wine goes with manchego.  And do you really need cheese when you have great wine?

Because I now only enough to be dangerous in a little wine shop, I would say that I would pair it with a wine from the same region in Spain that it comes from.  Again, Noble Pig will be able to answer that, but we had a great spanish wine with a sheep's milk cheese.  It was a Descendientes de J. Palacios, Petalos, 2006, Bierzo, Spain.  And it was a beautiful red paired with zamarano cheese.

And you do not have to have cheese with really good wines, but we did learn how tasting the cheeses from the same region the wine came from made a huge difference in how you experience the wine.  That was the biggest surprise to me.  Most really robust wines need to go with food to appreciate them.

Living on the spit wants to know of  a good dessert wine.  And also what are some of my favorite wines and why.

Well, my friend Marlene, I have no idea.  Maybe Noble Pig can tell you.  We did have a light, and effervescent chilled red you could try.  It was Tenute Pederazana, Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castievetro, 2007, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.  We had it chilled, and I loved it with its paired cheese, a Stravecchio Parmesan from Wisconsin!  And, I loved chardonnay up until this class, now I'm not so sure.  I am on a new journey, and I'll keep everyone posted. I still see plenty of chard in my future, though.  We can discuss it when I come to Virginia for a visit.

Asthmagirl wants to know what kind of coffee I drink.

I hate to come out to a Seattle-based coffee drinker, as they are the world class champs, but I am not a coffee expert.  I like mild roasts like Dunkin' Donuts blends, but my real favorite is my K-cup coffee maker, and the flavors I order like pecan and mudslide.  Sorry.  I know how disappointed you must be.

Flash Stitcher wants to know if I have a glass of the grape before I go to a Weight Watcher's weigh in.  And she wondered why our daughters were up at 12:30 this morning while they were away at their senior retreat.

No.  I do not put any food or liquid in my body for 4 hours before a weigh in.  It hasn't really helped, so I may rethink the wine thing next week.

Those girls were up at 12:30 because they were away at their senior retreat;)

Jeri wants to know how to get rid of the grease smell in her kitchen.

Um, Jeri, have you seen my laundry issues?  I wouldn't ask me.  Maybe Noble Pig can help;)

Keetha has nuthin' too.  Must be because we have the same birthday.  Great minds, you know...

Don't sweat it...I can't wait to read about your trip.

Big Hair Envy wants to know if wine is ever wrong.

Have I mentioned how I am going to Virginia to visit all these fun gals?

Swampwitch wants to know what wine I like.  She also likes peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

Well, I like most wines.  especially the ones in my house.  And we are going to be good friends with such common culinary tastes.  By the way, your Breast Cancer Awareness post rocks!

Daryl also has nuthin'.

That's fine with me, because she is another brilliant Aquarius; just like someone else around here.

Joanie and Sandie and Ellen like my t-shirt and want one, too.

Sorry my dears, it was a gift, but I'll be on the lookout!  Ellen, Annie has one, too;)

Mama Geek asks what actor makes me swoon?  Am I a dog or cat person?  Can she see a photo of my most exotic shoes?

Richard Gere.

I have both a dog and a cat, but I may lean a little more towards the dog.  Sorry Noelle.

Shoes?  Hmmm.  Still looking for an appropriate pair of lucite ones, so we'll make do with these.  I have only been brave enough to were them here at home.  With shorts.  Quite a vision I make.

Just imagine it.

My Friend,
Although I have strong feelings about my personal coffee, I'm the free wheeling sort that thinks everyone should drink the coffee that tastes best to them.
So I celebrate your libation of choice. Viva la mild roast!

Coffee for everyone!

PS~ I feel exactly the same way about wine!

Oh aren't you clever with your wine and cheese knowledge...I love it when you talk that way...

I can organize that Virginia trip, just give me the sign.

However, when you do come, you may want to leave those red spiked shoes at home. This is nothing against the shoes, it is merely for your safety protection out here in the country. From the tripping hazards to the Bubbas, we want you to have a good experience.

Bring jeans and flip flops and you'll be set. We'll take care of the wine.

(I'm gone until Sunday so won't be visiting again until then. Is that applause and cheers and a few shrieks of joy I hear? Have a good week.)

Can I come to Virginia, too? It sounds like you all are going to have a blast and I'm feeling a bit left out. :-)

Hmmm...Now I'm feeling like I should have asked a wittier question since you've gone and posted them all, "Mama said to ask her anything and all I asked about was where I could get a matching tee!" ;-)

Someone here was asking about a good dessert wine...was it Living on the Spit? Regardless, I have a solid recommendation. You'll love it!

If you're willing to contact a winery here in Missouri (and it's worth it, I promise), you can get the BEST ice wine I've ever tasted---truly, truly an awesome dessert wine. It's the Augusta Winery's Icewine (their 2007 Icewine won Best of Class & Gold in Missouri's 2008 Wine Competition.)

Don't let the fact that it comes from a Missouri winery fool you---this is an EXCELLENT dessert wine (I bought 3 bottles of it last time we visited).

They ship to most states in the US, so maybe they'll ship to yours. 1 bottle runs approximately $16.99. You get a discount if you buy in larger quantities.

Check it out on Augusta Winery.com and look up 2007 Icewine. Serious yum factor here!

(This wine, along with a delicious Tawny Port (different winery) will be featured on my site in the next month or so if you need more info.)

Hope that helps!

My only comment to this post is that when all else fails, all can be solved in a Dunkin Donut store. Ahh, the mild roastedness of the coffee...ahh..your choice of small, medium, large or extra large can be understood in simple terms. There's nothing like a cup of DD!
That's all. Cuz I got nuttin' this morning!
