Behaving

I went to The Bird's school last night for my final back-to-school night. Sigh. I paid close attention to my clothes, my hair and my shoes.  I think she approved.

Mama:  Do I look okay?  This isn't going to embarrass you?
Bird:  No, you look fine.
Mama:  Is there anything I should be on the lookout for?
Bird:  No.  Just don't be weird.

Weird?  What is that?  Wonder if I behaved?

But I am COMFORTABLE being weird...Or I am weird because I am comfortable? Or I get weird because it makes me comfortable???? Crap...I am so glad I have time to figure this stuff out.

Sometimes I think just sneezing wrong makes you wierd to them. It's so random you just never know.

That seems like a pretty vague mandate. No way she can hold you to it.

Well, whatever weird is you must not have been it. Because she certainly would have let you know if you were :). My gosh, that girl has beautiful hair! And the face isn't bad either :). It's hard to believe, but in just a few short years you will no longer be a source of embarrassment to her...sigh!

Happy Friday!!!

one of myreatest joys in life is being able to embarrass my kids... of course they pay me back in kind... for example... last night I took the son to the auto parts store, we were there a little while and there were ALOT of people ther eso as we walked out he started screaming and singing at the top of his lungs capacity! then laughed and grined as we walked out the door! sigh I have created a monster but I just laughed too!

Weird? That's when you turn purple in the face yelling from the sidelines at any and all sporting events. Or when you show up at the bus stop on Halloween wearing a witch's outfit. Driving a tractor.

Weird is when you are shuttling your two kids plus one spare kid to Somewhere, and you accidentally burp out loud because you're so used to doing it around your two kids. Then, to make it weirder, you start babbling to the spare kid about how you never do that, this was a one-time accident. The more you babble, the weirder you sound.

Weird is when you brag to your son about how you recently read that microwaving an egg is a fast and simple way to make breakfast, but when you attempt it, you leave it in too long and the egg explodes inside the microwave.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I am the poster child for Weird and I wrote that book.

And just what kind of mother would you be if you weren't weird in your daughter's eyes? It's your duty to come across as a foreign creature. But for a woman of such weirdness, you sure gave birth to a beauty - no doubt with a weirdness all her own. :)

My daughter was the queen of the rolling eyes at that age.

Yes you behaved, but I don't think I did!!

And we get through those these times by hoping that one day our children will have children who think they are weird and totally uncool as they shuttle their children around from activitiy to activity and buy cases of sports fundraiser chocolates.

Weird is the ultimate compliment...embrace it!

If I had a dollar for everytime I heard Mom don't be or quit being weird I would be a billionaire. I use to get in trouble for laughing too loud, singing or even talking when the children felt it embarrassed them.

I don't think we can possibly go to a school function and not be perceived as weird. After all, we are over 18.

I completely understand. I know it can't be good when my kids start a sentence with "Mom, don't freak out!". Who? Me? :)

You'll know you're successful when they're 22 and you invite them to the pub and they want to go with you!

Yes, Mama. Virginia beckons. Even if we are a little weird (and when I say "we" I mean "I").

I went to back-to-school night last night, too. My daughter told her math teacher that I probably would not listen to her...?! What the heck?! I'm not sure what that was supposed to mean, but I was trying my best not to let her know whose kid was mine. :)

"Just don't be weird."

I have heard that once (or twice), or the classic, "Just don't embarrass me."

As if...

I hope you were weird...it would serve them right and give them ideas for when they has kids!!!
You are too funny!! And so is she!

Ah. Yes. The 'don't be weird' comment. But I see you got her back for it by posting this very complimentary photo of her. Touche!
