There is a man around here, next county over, who does the Griswold-category of Christmas lights at his house. I mean Griswold on steroids - there are thousands of lights, dozens of blow ups and it is a winter wonderland. Anyway, all he asks to see his spectacle is donations of canned food OR items the local pet shelter can use like clorox, towels, food, cat litter, etc.
This year their goal? FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS. And they'll get it.
It's amazing how much can be done if everyone just did a little something.
Maybe next Blog Fest we donate something? (I mean besides brain cells.)
Giving and not receiving IS what it's all about.....what a great idea...you need to kiss your brain...that's what I tell my students when they do GREAT things....YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
Very cool thing to do. My office collects by the big barrels every year and it goes to the homeless shelters and food bank here. It is not just food but clothing and stuff like that.

Absolutely wonderful idea. Way to go Mama.
Great idea. That really puts the focus on giving during the season - thanks for the idea!
It is a great idea. And a reflection of the spirit of the season.
Excellent!
You're the BEST;)
Doing that for the second year at our Christmas open house. Last year I took about 10 bags to the St. Vincent DePaul food bank at my church.
Everyone needs to contribute ... everyone .. just a single item can make a difference to someone who is hungry
xo

Kissing my computer screen right now!

I'm all for CBW's idea at the BlogFest. And MPM, this is an awesome idea you've got here.
Yay! Giving to local food shelters is so important. Great work that does not go unnoticed or unappreciated!
