Well, Crap

It would appear that I have brought Connecticut "spring" to Tennessee.
Sorry.

This n That Thursday

In honor of the blizzard that is bearing down on my former home, I have blogged about the benefits of living in Tennessee.  This is the link to that blog. That is all.  Go read it and let me know your thoughts!

PS--Today, in Franklin, Tennessee, I am wearing jeans and a little cardigan sweater.

Why I'm Yawning Today

I knew we were in for storms overnight.
Actually looked forward to a break from this January heatwave.
But what blew over was horrific.
First of all, Dora hates storms.  Hates.
So, at bedtime, she got a little "calming" treat.
At 12:30, the howling wind woke me up.
I can hear the grass growing outside, so it doesn't take much to wake me.
I browsed the local TV stations, all of which were live.
Not a good omen.
But the front was still in Missouri.
Dora was asleep.
So I tried to sleep.
At 3 the tornado sirens started.
I turned the TV on again.
The red was close by.
The weathermen on NBC in Nashville live broadcast as their power went out
and a roar went over the station.
This has just been confirmed as an F2 tornado that hit the ground east of downtown
and stayed on the ground for 4 miles.
At 3:15, these same weathermen said this: "If you are in Cool Springs, and are near I-65, then you should already be in your safe place."
This is exactly where we live.
So Dora and I ran downstairs and got in the hallway bath.
Then: roaring, groaning and shaking.
Not in a fun way.
It really does sound just like a train.
And just like that, it was gone.
 We were safe.
And the all-clear sounded a little later.
So we went right back to sleep.
Just like veteran storm troopers.
We have had our first "spring" storm.
Only it's not spring.
So, all my friends east of Tennessee, be alert today.  It's ugly.
We may be spending a lot of quality time in that loo.
Maybe I should put a TV in there.

Monday Mashup

  • I had to turn on the a/c Friday.
  • We are going to have a "wintry mix" this afternoon and tonight.
  • In between, we had some tornado drama during the football games yesterday.  Luckily no one was hurt. Or worse.
  • I used my new pink drill and built a whole shelving system for my closet.
  • I need a manicure.
  • I am getting my place all Feng Shui'd for the new year.
  • Today I shall finish my thank you notes.  That is a sworn statement.
  • I am so happy that Argo won all those awards last night at The Golden Globes.  Most deserved.
  • I need to start training for the Nashville Half Marathon.  Yikes.
  • Robin Roberts on Good Morning America is a true cancer warrior.  Such an inspiration.
  • The Bird informed me that we are not supposed to double space between sentences when we text.  Really?  Who knew?
  • I am old.  And getting older by the day.  I consider that a very good thing.
  • How's your day shaping up?

This 'n That Thursday

  • Rabbit, rabbit.  Sending lots of good first-day-of-the-month love to my friends impacted by Sandy.
  • That one with the white fence around it used to be my house in Westport.  This picture was taken by the Connecticut National Guard on Tuesday afternoon.  I'm thinking they had water on the first floor during high tide Monday night.
  • The devastation in New York City and New Jersey, however, looks horrifying.
  • And let's give props to Christie, Cuomo, Malloy, Bloomberg and President Obama.  That's what bipartisanship should look like.
  • By the way, I had a dream on Monday night that I was married to Mitt Romney.  I am blaming it on the full moon.  Our marriage seemed to be very good, though.  More bipartisanship.
  • Meanwhile, here in reality, I am heading to my new office this morning.  So thankful.  So very thankful.

Hurricane humor.
I get no respect.
Even in a storm.
So thankful all my people made it through.

Be well my family and friends.
Please take this storm seriously.

This 'n That Thursday

Junk:
  •  I now use plain 'ol corn starch for body powder.  I love it.
  • Can someone explain "The Hunger Games" to me?
  • We have our bridge game here tonight.  I feel lucky.
  • Today will be my 8th radiation treatment.  It's okay.
  • I am tired of talking about the weather, and in other news, I had a dream that I was having a romance with a NYC weatherman.  It was quite nice.
  • Local tv commercials annoy me.
  • I have never been on Pinterest.
  • My knees are killing me.  Killing me.
  • I am prone to hyperbole at times.
  • It would be more than awesome to be on a beach right about now.  And I don't mean The Long Island Sound.  I mean a beach with palm trees.
I feel all better now.  Have anything to purge?

More role reversal.  And in a little trip down memory lane, I like to remember that one of her first sentences went something like this: "Mommy, if I'm wearin' my clothes, why do you choose them?"
But, still...what am I supposed to wear today??

Tuesday Text: Parentexting™

The Bird has a dinner party:
And then? Just another round of our typical chatter. We go from her political leanings, which she shared with me while the backside of Irene was howling through my ears, to what we're going to wear to a wedding in a few weeks. Now she wants Dora to have a Twitter account. Dora--who can barely get on her Facebook page....

And the Boy Child? Hurricane discussion turns to Dora with him as well. Don't you like how autocorrect turns surge into suede? I know lots of homeowners along the shore who wish that were actually true.
Seriously. All he cares about is Dora. I'm live texting a hurricane, and all I get is Dora/Doobie?
Dora. Dora Dora.
I get no respect.

Lucky Me!

Aug 29, 2011

Today's Horoscope for Aquarius

Presented by Horoscope.com
Lucky you! An unexpected break could come your way that gets you started in just the direction you've wanted to follow. This could involve love, career aspirations, or simply a new way of living that you've been longing to experience. Friends might play a major role in this process. Move ahead cautiously, but move ahead. Breaks like this don't come very often!
Is anybody else's this good??
I'll be moving ahead as soon as the roads get clear.
Sending lots of good wishes to everyone who endured Irene. She was not nice. And we were very fortunate.

Happy Friday!

Come here and sit with me.
Isn't this refreshing?

It's 50 and raining.
It will be like this for the foreseeable future.
My brother emailed me yesterday,
and said he may need light therapy.
I so get it.
Even my texts have the doldrums.
You know it's bad when a dog's bowel movement is exciting.
sigh

Please tell me your life is more exciting. Please?

March

So this was the parking lot at work on Monday morning.
Don't you like my subtle self portrait?
comes like a lion
winter's last gasp leaves her mark
we wait for the lamb

3 more inches of rain coming tomorrow. Stay tuned for more exciting parking lot shots.
