What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

The West

Boston

The South

North Central

The Northeast

Philadelphia

The Inland North

What American accent do you have?
Quiz Created on GoToQuiz

Flea had this little exercise up on her site yesterday.  I was intrigued, so I took the test. It appears I have no accent.  That's funny because I was born in Mississippi, raised in Tennessee, and now live in Connecticut.  All I ever hear is how southern I sound.  Go figure.  The bright side in this is that I have a good voice for TV and radio.  This is helpful since I am looking for something productive to do with myself when my babies go off to college.  So be on the lookout for me.  I'll apparently be the one without any accent.

This quiz is highly specialized and scientific.  Very detailed.  If you're looking for something to do today, or just taking a break from all your spring cleaning, you should try it out, and let me know your results!

I took it.. and I am 'inland north'...

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

Personally having been born in the Bronx and growing up in NYC I dont think I have a NewYawk accent but I am sure I sound as if I am from the East Coast .. tho definitely not from South Joisey or Philadelphia where they sounds as if their noses are stuffed and in need of a good blowing..

My friends from outside of NewYawk all say I do have an accent but what do they know ... they're the ones with accents!

Where I come from it's always a Coke. No matter if it's 7-up, ginger ale, whatever.

Wow a Southerner who ranks a Philly Accent. I guess it could be that I can turn my southernness on and off or that I have moved so many times in my life.
My not so little one laughs when I am around people with accents as I adopt theirs while I am speaking with them.
Soda is soda....be it coke, 7up, Mr. Pibb or soda water.
Hey Mama, I know some people in Advertising! You could easily do Voice overs.

Well mine showed I was from the west. How wrong is that? LOL. As I've never lived anywhere but the good ole south.

Inland North here.

I took that silly thing a long time ago and I was "midland" as well. Which is funny because everyone... I mean EVERYone says "Oh! Where are you from" and promptly begin to guess somewhere down south because of my strong accent.

And it is coke. Would you like some "coke"? You would? What kind: Coca-cola, Dr. Pepper, Sprite?

:-P

I'm a midland. Let's see, I've lived in Alaska and Washington State. I'm not even sure where midland is!

It's pop here. "We're out of Pop!" "What kind do you want?"
"Root beer"!

I have been in the deep south 21 years... yet it says I have a northern accent... unless you talk to me then you know thats NOT true LOL...
yeah year one is something and each year just gets more and more nuts... with humor involved and some not so humorus...
yes mom had a rough time but, I firmly believe that you take what you are given and you deal with it no one owes you because you may have had more or less or good or bad ... my mother is not like me she feels that she has never done anything wrong and that the world should owe her... it is sad to me. because she tries hard sometimes to be a kind loving person but then something happens or is said by her that is so hurtful to anyone and everyone and she just does not care. I want to tell this story but, not for sympathy or anger toward her as I do believe she is mentally ill. My hopes are that someone somewhere will realise they are not alone ... and they too can survive :-) I forgot to deposit what you sent so more than likely it will be next week... thanks again I know we made a difference and thats what it is about!

Good grief! I was born in Texas and learned to speak there; lived in New Mexico for 10 years, and have been an "Arkie" since 1950! The quiz reports that I have a "Philadelphia" accent! My Texas grandma always said I sounded like a Yankee, though, so who knows?

Western- little accent at all. I'll take that. Makes it more difficult for people to analyze me. :)

Bah - thing says I am in inland north too and I have lived my whole life in the northeast. It is soda, people!

I'm the West just as I suspected, since I've never lived anywhere else! Cute exercise.

I was really hoping for Midland. But Philly - geez.

It says I am North Central

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

Good thing I am mistaken for a Canadian since that is what I am.

I recognize that candy! It's from Blue Q, right? My Mother In Law bought me a case of "I'm not a Republican" candy because I told her that I was considering (just considering) voting for McCain.

I've never had much accent and neither of my children have accents. Hmmmm...

Fun test. Thanks MP!
