First, the good news:
- I have the most amazing support system of family and friends.
- I am a strong and positive person.
- I am loved.
- I was able to spend this last weekend with my two favorite people at the happiest place on earth.
- I finished my half marathon with my son and we raised over $7,200 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
- I am blessed, and I am thankful for that.
- We caught it very early.
Now, the not-so-good news:
- I have breast cancer.
- I am having a lumpectomy, lymph node biopsy and reconstructive surgery today.
- I feel scared, but confident in my doctors.
- My children will be with me every step of the way.
- If I am lucky, I will have radiation followed by hormone therapy.
- I am going to hold it at this.
What you can do:
- If you are the type, please say a prayer for us...especially my children. It is so hard to be the caregiver...
- If you aren't the type, please just send them a good thought today.
- If you haven't done so, go get a mammogram. Mine may just have saved my life.

Sometimes we have to separate things in our lives so that we can see how much more good there is than bad. You have so many blessings, but I say a prayer for you during this very difficult time and for your children. My mother passed away from breast cancer, I was 38, she was 57, but she had compromised health to start with from having Polio. She'd been a massive fighter. I've seen so many other friends get through their breast cancer battles and I want to jump up and down in a triumphant cheer for them. I know you will stay on top of your treatment and do all you can to beat this intruder. You are already a survivor and a winner!!!!! And your kids will be strong...life does that to us.

Lauren, thanks to maria in nj, I have followed CBW's blog for a long time. You have warm thoughts and prayers sent from CA, and I believe those prayers do boost your spirit, as does love.
It is a scary place to be in, but my mom beat the same diagnosis and she is 87 now--her 'little sister' was treated for the same at age 79 and she is doing great !!
( Not that you asked, but there is a study done at a university hospital in the UK with amazing results for br. cancer patients who ate watercress each day--it has a serious cancer-fighting compound. I try everything nutrition-wise with research backing it--it can't hurt, and could boost the immune system.)

I'm so sorry, I haven't been reading the blogs I like to follow like I use to. Seems I don't have enough time in the day with chores, Facebook and (LOL) playing computer games. But I did see something on Facebook, in fact I sent you a message from Facebook.
Are you doing radiation to be on the safe side? I did both times. I must say, my breast probably could have stood some reconstruction, but it was never suggested to me and I didn't care that one is bigger then the other. LOL They even told me, I could go to therapy, and I said for what, they said to help get rid of the lump from the scar, apparently therapy would show me how to massage that area. I told them that wasn't necessary because no one touched those puppies, except myself and my doctor. But after the incision once healed I was able to do the radiation.
I'm sure by now you know all about what they are going to do. The first time, they had me wait 6 mos and have it rechecked, but when they found it in the other breast, I was sent in right away. First time they did the lumpectomy and then checked to see if it was cancer, and when they found it was, I had to go back about ten days later and have lymph nodes removed.
Second time, they did a needle biopsy and knew ahead, so did it all at one time,which is a lot better then having two surgeries with in a two week period. Again, good luck with yours. The first time I didn't have to take anything, this second time they put me on Femera, and my five years is up, I go this morning for a check up and hoping it will be my last and also can stop the pills. I'm so sorry I haven't been keeping up with your blog, I would have known this earlier. Have to get a bath and dressed, my appointment is at 9:30. Will let you know what my doctor says.
