This-n-That Thursday

Full of thanks and some answers:
  • I cannot thank you all enough for the love and support. It is palpable.
  • I was diagnosed with breast cancer on December 14 after having a stereo biopsy on the 12th.
  • I was blindsided with that call.
  • All I had on my mammogram were some calcifications (they are like little dots of kosher salt when you look at the film).
  • The radiologist told me to come back in 6 months for a follow up. My gut told me otherwise.
  • Telling my children was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Going to Disney to run the half marathon last week was one of the best things we've ever done.
  • It appears to be the hormone receptive kind of cancer which is highly treatable.
  • I had the lumpectomy, lymph node biopsy and some reconstruction on Tuesday.
  • I love my team of doctors.
  • I am in pain, but I have some nice pills.
  • And my nursemaids/children are awesome.
  • I hope to have more answers by tomorrow.
  • If I am lucky, I will have radiation followed by hormone therapy.
  • I feel lucky.
  • Now, if you haven't yet done so in the past year, go get your mammogram/ultrasound/MRI.
  • Or I will hunt you down and harangue you. It won't be pretty.
And now, I'm going back to bed.

I haven't been over in a few days....I'm shocked by the news. I'm SO happy to read of the prognosis, your terrific outlook & "pillows" of support. =) You're a lovely woman, inside & out, and your Path is a wonderful one....I'm sorry for this scary hiccup.

And THANK GOD for modern medicine that can kick the "c" right out of you. xoxo

Saw Kathleen's post about your diagnosis and subsequent procedure so I moseyed on over the see what the hubbub was about. My mom underwent a lump-ectomy on Monday and the outlook is positive.

Keep the faith; good news that it was detected early. Sounds like you're on your way to a complete recovery!

Boobs are a terrible thing to waste!

Geeze. I've been so caught up in my own little world, I had no idea. You are one helluva strong woman & I know you'll get through this, especially with your kids at the helm. Many prayers will be said for you my friend.

All my daughter wanted for Christmas (from me) is for me to see a GYN for the first time in 15 years. I go this week & I'm petrified, but I AM going to make the appointment...

Yes, I'm one for updates...thank you very much. Was hoping you'd do this.

I can only imagine...

I'm thinking the hard part is over and now you are in the a little more and recovery stage.

The babies, I'm sure were worried immensely and that worries us Moms.

You sound very positive and upbeat and that's the way we're going. Just sayin :)

Glad to hear your cancer is treatable! I would highly recommend reading the book "The Emperor of all Maladies - A Biography of Cancer" by Siddhartha Mukherjee. It traces the first known case of cancer, including breast cancer(and treatments)in ancient Egypt all the way to modern times and treatments. It is fascinating. I don't have cancer but my husband has cancer (under control).

Lauren, I had no idea you experienced this. All I can tell you is I am so glad of the news received today. Most of what you wrote, I went through before Thanksgiving short of the diagnosis. Praise God. But I must go back in 6 months for follow uo on other breast,
Just know that I am praying for you.
