Looking Good....

Aquarius Horoscope
For The Week Starting August 31, 2009
- Your luck is still running to form, especially on Monday and Tuesday this week. Hopefully you are using your spare time with a creative and useful hobby. You could make some serious money here. This is time to take up a new study or to change schools or your residence. Lasting friendships can be formed now so be sure to meet new people.

I guess this means I have to get dressed and leave the house. What does your horoscope say for the coming week?

Oh Danny Boy?

I am sort of a Weather Channel junkie. I think it is a factor of my advancing years. And my nerd level. We have been watching a blob of clouds, named Danny, in the Atlantic all week. It is turning out to be a loser in the hurricane world, but, whatever, it'll give us Cocktail Corner girls an excuse to go the The Black Duck for lunch tomorrow and ride out the storm with some lunch. And some drinks. And in light of all this, I want to share my predictions of some future hurricanes:

Happy Weekend everybody;)

This-n-That Thursday

On the road:
  • I feel guilty when I turn off my GPS before I reach my destination. I feel like I'm hurting Sylvia's feelings for cutting her off.
  • What is it with people in the passing lane who insist on hanging out there at 50 mph? On the phone.
  • I could sit at a New Jersey rest stop and people-watch all day.
  • I do not like waiting to cross the George Washington Bridge. Or the Cross Bronx Expressway.
  • Blinkers anyone?
  • How about those folks who pull out right in front of you and then proceed to drive 5 mph? Including through stop signs.
  • How do we feel about vanity plates? Is it my imagination or does Virginia have the most?
  • If I move to Virginia I need to create a vanity plate, too.
  • Those people who pull out in front of you? Don't you wish you had a James Bond missile launcher in the front of your car?
  • I cannot stop thinking about my vanity plate.

Breaking News...

In a feeble attempt to turn away from cable news, Mental P plays an inane game on the Internet:

Your Nail Polish Color is Red

How you're unique: You have an incredible eye for style and art

Why your style rocks: You are classic and classy - and that's hot!

What this color says about you: "I'm smart, sassy, and sexy. And I know it."

Seriously, I'll do anything online today in a bid to keep me distracted from MSNBC's coverage of Ted Kennedy's life. But something tells me it won't work. What a life that man lived....

Dawg Days of August

I have validation:

Today's Aquarius Horoscope:
Aug 25, 2009

You may be feeling a bit sluggish today, dear Aquarius. Your warrior instinct would rather just stay home on the couch than get up and fight. This is fine. More than likely, you may simply need a break from your quest for world domination. Remember that a good leader also takes the time to sit back and reflect on recent events so that he or she can make better plans for the future.

**Thank you all for your good wishes on my interview yesterday...it is a very part time position that has potential to grow. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, I am starting to enjoy the quietness of this place. And today, I am going to the grocery store to shop for two. I have no idea what to get. But I do know one thing for sure--it will be a lot less!

Kids in College= Party Time!

The Mental P Rugrats have both been launched. With a minimum of weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Mental P? Well she's just fine. And here's why:

The Virginia Blogging Sisters.

Big Hair Envy and I made plans to meet up for dinner after I finished setting The Bird up at UVa. We settled on an Italian restaurant outside of Richmond. I made a reservation at a nearby hotel. Then I started getting excited. I invited Chesapeake Bay Woman in a comment and she didn't respond. I thought it was odd, but chalked it up to her busy schedule. And do you know why she didn't respond?

CBW, BHE and Momx2
Sorry about the pic, all I had was my phone;)
She was already coming! And was I ever surprised when I walked into that restaurant looking for Big Hair and came upon a table full of my friends. BHE, her husband Cool Breeze, CBW and our blogfest chef Bud, and Momx2 were all sitting there waiting to cheer me up! And they did their job splendidly. I don't know when I've had so much fun. Thank you all, again, for making such an effort. I'm still smiling. And I'm sitting here in my empty house. Smiling.

And this morning? I have an interview for a job that could be really fulfilling and interesting. Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for me!

Charlottesville

Or Bust!
No one has ever been so ready.
Really.

Seriously?

If Brian Boitano can get his own show on the Food Network, then surely someone will give me a job. Right?

Right?

This-n-That Thursday

One down and one to go:
  • The boy-child was successfully deposited at school.
  • I barely embarrassed him at all.
  • It was scorching hot.
  • His dorm is unairconditioned, but all the boys have big fans.
  • He has three roommates.
  • They all seem like nice boys.
  • But I wonder if they'll ever get any work done.
  • As I was leaving, they were assembling a basketball hoop. In the hallway.
  • Ruby Tuesday restaurants have pimento cheese things on their menus. I love pimento cheese, and never get any up here in New England.
  • The Bird goes to school on Saturday.
  • I hope I continue to keep my embarrassing behavior to a minimum then as well. But you never really know. Especially with me.

I Think I'll Just Stay In Bed

Today's Aquarius Horoscope:
Aug 17, 2009

Try not to be too arrogant today, dear Aquarius, even when you are one hundred percent sure that you are right about the given situation. More than likely, you do indeed have the correct answers, but it is not necessary to be militant about it. Unexpected events are coming your way, and you may find that your emotions are being toyed with. Be on guard for people who may want to ruffle your feathers unjustly.

This does not bode well for my coming week of nest-emptying. Well, except for the part about being 100% sure I'm right. That is always the case. Just ask my family.

This-n-That Thursday

Musings:
  • The more time I spend on this planet, the less I know.
  • Have you ever noticed that the people who say they don't "do" drama, are the ones with the most of it in their lives?
  • I have a whole bunch of snappy Tweets in my head. I think I should write them.
  • I got a notice yesterday that it was time to schedule the pool closing for the winter. gah
  • I keep thinking that I need to teach my babies more life lessons before they leave for school next week.
  • Like: You have to have respect for yourself and your body before you can have it for anyone else. I hope they already know this...
  • And, if your gut tells you something isn't right, then it isn't.
  • Always wear clean underwear.
  • And no matter whether I am ready or not, they will go next week.
  • And it will all be okay.

Texting With Mama

I needed to know the result of Augie's TB test and he is away...
My texts are the green ones,
and my darling son's responses are on the left.
I think I can be ready to send him to school next week.

But I am serious.
Note the silence on the other end...
That room needs a bulldozer run through there.

If It's Wednesday....

...I'm at the beach.
With my bodyguard.
Seriously. Shauna is just mesmerizing.
Isn't she?

Eight Days

In eight days, I get to take my baby boy to Villanova University near Philadelphia. Since he turned 18 last month, he has been on quite the crusade to remind me that he is an adult now. And he is in charge of himself. Uh huh.

Yesterday, he had his annual physical. I was allowed to go with him:

Augie: Why do I still have to go to the pediatrician? I'm 18 now. This is stupid.

Mama: You have to have a physical for college, and they have all your records. I think you still go there until after college.

Augie: This is crazy. I am too tall for them to even measure me. And there are babies in there. I am 18 you know.

Mama: Just humor me, okay? They have all your records, and can get all the forms filled out that you have to bring.

Augie (disgusted sigh): Do you think I'm going to get a shot?

They never really grow up, do they?

Truer Words...

...were never spoken.

Today's Aquarius Horoscope:
Aug 10, 2009

Dear Aquarius, no one has ever accused you of being overly diplomatic. In fact, since you have no compunction about saying what you think, your mouth regularly gets you into trouble. It is true that your verbal outbursts often relieve tension in tight situations, but there are times when kind words are a more effective way of getting one's point across. Why not give it a try for a change?

Itty Bitty Blood Pressure Committee:
Thanks for the medicine hints.

We get to finish shopping for college.

Cash For Mama's Junk?

Dear President Obama,

I don't have a clunker to cash in on, but I do have a few things sitting around here that I was wondering if you'd consider taking off my hands. Okay?
  • About 30 pair of jeans in varying sizes.
  • Some kimonos purchased during my All-Things-Asian phase.
  • All the orange and brown lipsticks that come in those Clinique Gift With Purchase Bags.
  • All my tight white t-shirts.
  • All of my children's SAT and AP Prep books.
  • All my sparkly hair scrunchies.
  • All my springform cake pans.
  • An exercise bike.
  • An ab roller.
  • 6 yoga mats and 5 yoga videos.
  • My American Express and Visa bills.
  • My mortgage.
I know you're busy and all, but I figured that now I could get some help. Then I could go out and do my part for the economy. I look forward to hearing from you soon

Kind regards,
Mental P Mama

PS--Give Michelle and the girls my best.

This-n-That Thursday

Nonsense:
  • I am older than President Obama.
  • I feel older than dirt sometimes.
  • Anybody have tips on getting liquid meds into a cat. Said cat has not been declawed.
  • I think I already need stronger reading glasses.
  • I am hopelessly addicted to the Word Warp game on my iPhone.
  • What's the best thing to put on cat scratches?
  • I am an expert at growing crab grass.
  • I love Shark Week on the Discovery channel.
  • My children have been on vacation for the last week, and I am fine. This college business might just be okay. Maybe.

Nine Lives

We've had a drama filled week here in Mental Land.
Noelle the resident cat was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
We rushed her to the animal hospital where they drained the fluid
in her chest cavity and put her in an oxygen tank for two days.
When she came home Friday night she was skin and bones.
And her sister Dora took over her care.
Best friends.
She's already feeling better and putting on some weight.
I am thinking cats really do get many lives.
Our next stop will be the kitty cat cardiologist.
My wallet can hardly wait.
(Sorry for the fuzzy pictures, my phone was all I had at the moment)
